"Why do I like that?" is the perfect description for being a SOAD fan. 😂

Love that you gave Sad Statue a 10/10. Underrated cut in their catalogue. The ending vocal harmony is transcendent.

Radio/Video is my favorite SOAD song ever and I am extremely glad that it is spreading.
PS: Danny and Lisa were Daron's neighbors when he was younger, so in the song, they are in a way indirectly talking to Danny and Lisa about how they are famous now; "Hey man, looking at me rockin' out, I'm on the radio!" is basically saying "Hey Danny, hey Lisa, look, I'm famous, I'm on the radio!"

This is SUCH a good album together with Hypnotize, theyre my favorites. I know not everyone likes Darons voice as much but I really enjoy his singing!

The harmonizing in this album is definitely the best I've ever heard from any band in my life, this band was such a big part of my adolescence it's refreshing seeing somebody review it.

Revenga is such an underrated song

Violent pornagraphy is actually about the violent videos on news of war being propaganda. So that when you think of places as it they are used for justifying war and invasions. The porn part is the profit that these companies take to put that stuff out (during this era Iraq)

They won an emmy for B.Y.O.B.

That's crazy how you guessed Bring Your Own Bombs without looking it up!
Your analysis is honestly really insightful and really shows how much critical thought you put into things like this! Cant wait for the next album!

21:05, Danny and Lisa were Daron Malakian’s neighbors when he was a kid, and the song is basically about, “look at me now, look where I am.”

It’s funny you mention Revenga feels like riding a horse, because the guitar technique where they play 3 notes like that in quick succession is commonly called a “gallop” due to it sounding like a horse gallop.

I belive BYOB has conflicting tones on purpose. The 'groovy' part of the song is meant to draw the listener in. It has a catchy beat, singable lyrics, bouncy riff. Just when you're starting to get into the groove, they hit you with the 'BLAST OFF' 'WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?'. It's meant to snap listeners who might be hearing this at a party out of the 'consume consume consume' trance and actually listen to the lyrics.

I feel like this album is sort of charting out American society of the time and all of the distractions in the media. Like Violent Pornography speaks to how capitalism tends to normalize an obsession with sex and violence. Even Cigaro, as silly as it seems at first, is about the men who start wars and genocides but are basically in a dick-measuring contest with each other. It's just notable that when SOAD was popular a lot of people really didn't pick up on any of the messaging and enjoyed the songs without detecting any of the irony.

Love that you "get it"!!! Their music is unique .. powerful... Rebellious .. serj and deron sing so well together and separately .. I'm going to see them in Toronto!!! I can't waaaaiiiiit!
