I agree with you on the fun of building older kits (maybe because I’m not a young modeler anymore 😂). I’m particularly fond of vintage Monogram and Tamiya kits. They give you more opportunities to scratch build and be creative in improving them, if you so desire. Nice video!

The Kelik look OK and cheaper but shipping is expensive. Quinta are better quality but quite a bit more expensive plus shipping.

Great modernization to old kits. I'm a wood ship modeler, but I admire all model building techniques.

58 years ago, it was fun to add cockpit details to 1/72  WWII aircraft models where there were none. I would cut out a semicircle of scrap balsa wood, trim it to fit between the fuselage halves, then work on it. Flat black for a base coat.Then I'd open the jar of white paint and pick up a dot of paint with the butt end of a paint brush and dab it on the 'instrument panel'. I refered to photos of the reaL fighters, and could fab up a believable display of instruments with larger and smaller dots in the right places. Tiny pin dots of red and yellow could simulate switch arrays. A bent pin with built-up black paint for a grip worked for a control stick. With the goldfish bowl quality of the clear canopies, it worked well enough.

I used this brand in the Hasegawa F9F panther, which definitely needs the help. I like them well enough, but I started to find I was pricing myself right out of the hobby with all the aftermarket stuff I was getting: photoetch, resin, decals, etc. I've gone back to doing a lot more improvising with what I have on the bench or around the house.

I used a Quinta 3d cockpit for a 1/32 scale Messerschmitt bf 109 G6 and they look amazing. As a result ,I have bought them for a future build of a Focke-Wulf 190 D in 1/32. However I recently finished a 1/72 scale Tamiya F35A,and used Quinta again,and at that scale I don’t think they looked much better than the standard cockpit decals,that come with the kit. At the price they are,I probably won’t get anymore at 1/72.

Great video. I've used the Quinta sets in my 1/72 Italeri Stuka, 1/72 Tamiya A6M2 Zero & 1/72 Airfix P-40B Warhawk builds and I can't recommend them enough. They are easy to use and look fantastic. The only thing I do different is that I use a white craft glue to glue mine down instead of the two part epoxy you use. It's easy to use, works well and is easy to clean up afterwards if a little seeps out. I also agree on the older kits comments to a degree, some of the newer kits are really nice especially some of the new tool kits Airfix has released. I'm also a big fan of the old Monogram kits myself. Cheers, Adrian.

Aż pożałowałem, że do Bf 109G-6 z Hasegawy kupiłem blaszki Eduarda. Z kalkami 3D pewnie poszłoby dużo szybciej 😅A tak serio to myślę, że (tak samo jak druk 3D) kalkomanie 3D są kolejnym etapem ewolucji modelarstwa, i są taką samą nowością jak swego czasu malowane blaszki fototrawione. Kupować, korzystać i cieszyć się z prostoty użycia. A dla hardcoreowych modelarzy zawsze pozostają blaszki fototrawione lub scratch build.

PVA glue works well when the decal is on a flat surface, I find super glue good for curved surfaces

Fajne są te kalki, łatwy i szybki sposób na poprawę wyglądu starszych modeli w których nie ma sensu dokładać dodatków za kupę kasy :)

Ja do kalek 3D używam najprostszego Wikolu. Sprawdza się w moim warsztacie. Robercie mam jednak wielką prośbę. Ten automatyczny lektor psuje zabawę z oglądania warsztatów. Masz całkiem fajny, naturalny głos. Może spróbuj gadać naturalnie. To poprawi na pewno odbiór.

OK, so you are saying the seatbelts from Kelik and Quinta don't look good? That was one of my main reasons for wanting to get them.

Aren't the colors too dark?
