The Focke-Wulf FW 190 would prove to be a very successful aircraft for the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Able to perform a variety of roles, from fighter to ground attack based on the version, it would be used to great effect in those mission types.

Join me on the workbench in this video as I build and review the Focke-Wulf Fw190 A5/A8/F8 plastic model kit (80235) in 1/72 scale from Heller. I also use this project as an opportunity to try out the new Gaahleri TurboX Mini compressor and GHAD-39 airbrush set to see how it performs.

This build and review is a bit of a "2 for 1" video, where I focus on what the Heller model kit is like to build, exploring the quality of the plastic parts and the processes I took to build it, rounding off with a review at the end. I also put the Gaahleri airbush and compressor through its paces to see how easy it is to use.

All worked out well, the paint scheme is one I haven't seen before and was a good trial for the new Gaalheri kit. I'm not in the market for that type of compressor, but it looks ideal for a beginner and the bundle for c£80 is good value for money. Cheers Matt.

I really like how Heller approached the decals for the... controversial German national marking of that era, much better than Airfix, I think, who usually skips it entirely. I understand why some builders would rather not put that marking on (and as far as i can tell it is plainly illegal in modern day Germany), yet these planes did have a marking on their tail and having none there always felt like an omission for me. Splitting the decal into two parts seems like a logical choice and in general there are two ways of doing it, the way Heller did it here or cutting it into two shapes that look vaguely like question marks. The Heller way is definitely preferable, you can just put the outline (or just the internal cross) onto the tail to signify there was a marking there, without fully recreating the symbol. In comparison. putting on just one ? shaped decal would look strange.

Hi Matt Thank you for this vid ... The FW190 is one of my favourites...I have the TurboX Mini and I like this small compressor I use them with a Harder Steenbeck infinity 0,2 nozzle right for this thinks you paint easy and fast you get the right pressure

It's kinda funny that I have been looking at possibly getting a Gaahleri airbrush, like the Mobius 0.3, to replace the Chinese one that came with a rechargeable battery powered air compressor. However, between upgrading to a better airbrush or getting a proper air compressor with a tank, I went with the air compressor, which should be arriving today.

If I do get a Gaahleri airbrush, I will likely wait until Christmas just to get comfortable and used to using a proper air compressor first.

Excellent finish Matt, love any of the Desert Scheme aircraft, doesn't matter whose. Just makes them more colourful and eye-catching than the standard European schemes. Just a quick question, for accuracy sakes, did you finish off the fin markings?

Nice little kit, but i dont understand, why on used looking planes, the decals are every time new and fresh ?

Looks like a good entry level airbrush. The heller kit looks good, the canopy looks nice and clear. Have you tried mottling with his airbrush on a larger 1/48 scale kit?

Glad you found the air hose. I bought the Gaahleri Serenair compressor (odd that they produce 2 different desktop compressors...). Can anyone compare the two? Why anyone would buy both I don't know...

Nice work. What do You use for airbrush cleaning after lacquer paint? I have all acrylic paints and couple of laquer surfacers, but i have never been brave enough to use them :D

Can you help please?
Why is it when I glue one part to another when they are painted or painted and varnished, the glue goes through and just melts off the paint and wrecks it?
I've let the paint or paint and varnish to dry for ages, sometimes days, but adding another plastic part to a painted part the glue melts the paint ☹️☹️. I use revell contact or Tamiya extra thin.
