What would you suggest I do to change this issue?

I think one thing that might help a lot of new players is a short tutorial on Scryfall syntax. I know Scryfall has a syntax guide, but it might be intimidating or difficult for a new player to use for the first time. But I think a brief tutorial on how to use it to find cards, or cards similar to a particular card in mind, would help get them away from pure YouTube/EDHREC decks. If that's something they want to do and/or have time for.

3/3 Elk yelling at me to learn Scryfall has taught me to make so many weird and enjoyable decks. mono blue enchantress, enchantress aristocrats, mono red control, oops clues in mono white and mono blue, mono blue reanimator and my proudest accomplishment "mono blue lifegain" that that isn't storm/lifelink/aetherflux reservoir. Challenging yourself while building is one of the best feelings there is <3

When I started playing , I found a commander : Rielle The Everwise.i built a deck around her. I kept loosing and doing nothing . So I worked on it for so long , and now its probably my best deck. Getting compliment on how cool your deck is , is like one of the best feeling tbh.

I LOVE deck building, but I’m still pretty terrible at it. So more content about the actual construction of decks sounds fantastic.

I think this exact problem you mentioned and started solving is why I love Cardmarket's videos so much. Yes, they have many "Type 2" (competitive) videos, but they have so many gimmicky, casual stuff that introduces something that is also interactive (like custom cards, custom house rules etc.) that just spices it up enough that the entertainment is coming from the "what if" rather than the competition.

Maybe a video where you could describe some house rules that could make the kitchen table more about fun again is an interesting way to teach US how to do it in our own way?

I still remember my first commander deck and how much i loved finding synergies, good cards and playing out the crazy bad draft chaff and making it work.
My first commander? Back in Alara block, Karrthus, tyrant of Jund. Dragon Broodmother is still my favorite dragon of all time.

I often use these content creators as a means to gain inspiration for my own ideas.

Recently, I saw a video mentioning the "spy kit/eradicate" combo, and I thought: "Huh, that reminds me of crush card virus from yu-gi-oh.
That sent me down a rabbit hole of deckbuilding where I watched combos performed in the show, and tried to find magic pieces that could recreate that combo. The result is a janky deck with strange multi-card combos, and I am so stoked to get to play it.

Thank you! I also feel that way that is the case for competitive Magic too. I love experimenting and finding the pieces of technology nobody else even considers. Like I think I was one of the early adopters of Lorehold Charm in Boros Energy for example. Finding the unique avenues is the bets. Finding your way to express yourself with your deck and succeed at competition is fun.

Your deck techs are the best i've seen on YouTube, man. And I've seen a lot. Glad you are focusing on those again!!
Best of luck and keep inspiring us ❤

I'm new to Magic as well as Commander, and for the life of me I can't imagine precons being "good." My experience with friday night magic at local shops has been me coming in with a precon and not being able to cast my commander before somebody else at the table goes infinite.

I'm a brand new player, only ever played one in person event, and have been dabbling a bit in MTG Arena just to familiarize myself with cards. I've also been watching a lot of content about Magic, and been watching some openings of older sets to see what cool cards there are.

I think something that could be really helpful is some form of content that shows the best way to push that curiosity and help with it. For example, I've seen a card I've been wanting to build a Commander deck around after watching people open cards from the Baldur's Gate set. I want to make a Blue/Green Dragon deck with "Korlessa, Scale Singer", but all I've been able to figure out for building the deck is "Blue/Green Dragons, and lands. Probably some draw/scrying". But finding those cards, even though I know what kind of cards I want, is difficult. I also don't know what else to add outside of those ideas because I just don't know enough, but surely there's types of cards or even staples that would help with that deck. So figuring out how to do more than search for Dragons on Archidekt and filter Blue/Green would be really helpful!

It’s an introspective look at content, for me the content on “deck techs” is just a piece of the puzzle. There are some new players that may just print off a list but that’s like buying a precon. I agree that the journey should culminate and you being a builder as well. That’s what I enjoy about the game the most, but everyone is different. Fun topic, fresh thought, nice job 👍

I've been considering doing "deck techs" but more along the lines of showing a few commanders I really like and then suggesting build routes, showing off a few cards and then letting people fill out the rest.

Years of hearthstone made me hate Net decking 😅

This is why I love your content. Thank you for making such cool videos!

@6:05 That sentiment "I didn't have a deck that was MINE" is a great point to highlight. I heavily encourage everybody to try to build something unique and try it out, even if it doesn't work out the way you want, you will learn so much about the game along the way, testing it, getting your butt kicked, refining it, tempering it and making something truly special and built to your preferences that you can explain to people is definitely a very rewarding type 2 experience. I have done this multiple times in multiple formats and every time it's exceptionally fun. If you get a good build, it's really rewarding to see people ask you "What IS This??" when they don't recognize your first few turns and they just look bewildered. There's nothing like it. Building your own archetypes is how the game evolves too, the best of those strategies end up getting adopted by other players. It's not just spelled out cookie cutter stuff, it's something unique that you forged by hand. Nice video 👍

I love that you feel this way. I don't play decks that I didn't brew. Recently, I brewed a deck that isn't anywhere on the net I can find. I so want to share it to get advice on improving the concept, but it feels like it won't be mine anymore. It's a terrible conundrum.

Thank you so much. This sums up something i really struggeld to express. The wizards part was clear to me, but i wasnt sure about the role of the content creators. I love to build decks out of draft chaff. Almost all my decks are build from what i have at my hands. And it would be great, to show people how to get that kind of joy out of magic.

One thing i kind of dislike in the mtg content world is the constant comparison of similar cards and calling slightly weaker cards unplayable. I like my trash cards and i dont need the best option. If you are playing in a more competitve environment you might benefit from upgrading slots in your deck, but i never found much joy in just upgrading and upgrading and so on. I feel like my decks loose a bit of their core, the essence and the personal note i like about them.

I look forward to your future videos. Enjoy the process

Imo 60-card players seeking refuge ended up bringing their optimization skills and ideas to a casual format. Which sucks tbh
