WoW lore is one of my favorites, and we had a blast making this one! If the video is well-received, we’ll definitely create more like it. Also, let us know about any other video game sagas you'd like us to explore!

15 years of build up, 1 cut scene laser to defeat. Great story telling blizzard.

One of the best running gag of my old bfa guildmates was that we're all still fighting in n'zoth's secret phase doing all extensions since Nyalotha and sometime we will just hear magni "CHAMPION, WE MUST HEAL THE WOUNNNNDS!" and snap out of it...

I still can't forgive them for how they handled N'Zoth.  One of the big complaints at the time was the lack of focus on the faction conflict; imagine if they let that play out longer, and Azshara was made the final raid boss of the expansion.  You would end on a cliffhanger... an old god finally free in this world.  He vanishes, no one knows where he is, what he is planning, and when he would attack.  Since they insisted on the Shadowlands and a time skip to follow, what a PERFECT time for him to strike.

Imagine you come back to Azeroth, to Orgimmar and Stormwind, and most of the planet has been taken over with these two cities as the strongholds of the resistance fighting back.  Your character arrives to find people screaming in madness; you stare up into the sky and N'zoth stares back at you from countless eyes that make up the skybox... all eyes have been opened.  The black empire is being rebuilt all around Azeroth, with dungeons and raids both concerned with taking back the other cities and delving into the dark temples to face the horrors that lie inside.  The zones and wildlife are corrupted and transformed, meaning what were the old zones are now the new questing areas.

That's what I would have hoped for, an entire expansion to deal with it, but the possibilities were endless.  Instead, we got what we god.  =/

I think the biggest issue with the end of BFA was that N'zoth left no lasting consequence on the world after his release. We fucked up, he got everything he wanted, and then we just steamrolled in and knocked him over like a bowling pin. Sylvanas burned Teldrassil and nuked Undercity for the Jailor - the Legion took Varian, Vol'jin, and Tirion - Sargeras glassed Silithus and caused years worth of events. But N'Zoth was planning to take over the world all spooky like but didn't actually ever do anything.

This video is 1-hour long speedrun on the reason why i actually still care about WOW (not even playing the game). That meta-story of Old Gods doing their stuff and the fact that this was established already in WC3 shows how high class Blizz worldbuilding can be.

I knew every part of this story before hand, but your way of telling the story had me captured and wanting more the entire time

N'Zoth felt more threatening as a random legendary in Hearthstone than in WoW

Over analyzing the whispers of Il'gynoth when Legion came out was such a highlight of my WoW career, I'm glad you made me re-live that mystery <3

I was so excited for N'Zoth. First getting teases for him in Cataclysm, and witnessing his buildup for 15 years. Only for him to be not only relegated to a single patch, but with an utterly underwhelming defeat cinematic.

Not me, who played through and studied all of W3, but played only a little and knows only basics of WoW lore, randomly getting this video recommended at 3 am on the workday when I was already nodding off and clicking it without noticing the length at first...
So it's 5 am now and I have no sleep in my eyes and immense wish in my head to go register a fresh account in WoW right now. When my boss asks about why I am so tired and unproductive today, I will be shifting all of the blame onto you, mister "relatively small youtuber who I've never heard of before with soothing voice and insane amounts of research and dedication put into a single amazing video".

My favourite thing that Blizzard did with N'Zoth is when you meet him in a long past timeline during some time thingy shenanigans (I forgot what was that, probably something bronze dragon related), he stares directly at you and tells you that he knows you "killed" him. This truly solidifies him as a grandest schemer, and true master of marionettes on a scale that is so big that we cannot even comprehend. Still, C'thun is my favourite, vibe-vise

48:44 "Corruption is never unpleasant. It takes hold of you discreetly, little by little, every indulgence slowly pulling you closer to the edge until you have been so twisted by it that the abyss does not seem all that bad."
I had to come back to this video to mention that this quote is one of my favorites. I have it noted down. Also "Within any subset, perversity will form at the fringes."

This is what killed it for me with wow. Loved the old gods lore. Even tho we fought them and one. Was told not their true state and only pushed them back into the prison. But if they were to he free, would mean our end. Then Nzoth is free and is so bad….

Like they could’ve done a whole expansion on them alone. That’s like  easily 2-3 free expansions.

This was Chris Metzen's Magnum Opus.
His story of the Horde constantly falling back into evil and specifically Garrosh as a fascist figure was never his plan, that was serendipity.

The Old Gods are the best villains in wow imo. even in Vanilla the whole lovecraftion theme of AQ tops the other raids just because it s the one enemy u dont really know anything about at this stage.

I really appreciate the bit at 16:20 of every enemy you are talking about chasing you

"this is gonna be heavy lore so if you already know this stuff You can skip"... Bro, i'm here for this sheet

This video isn't just a great essay, it also doubles as the perfect introduction video to new players, as well as the lore overall...
I gotta use this vid to rope in some of my friends,

I'm so so grateful as a classical musician that you brought up leitmotifs. They are one of the most powerful hint-dropping tools ever used in this game that I never hear anyone bring up ever. I constantly throw out specific instruments and motifs as lore speculation evidence and none of my guildies ever believe me!!! Well, until AFTER the thing in question happens, then suddenly we're all on the same bar.

It also just so happens that clarinet melody from Telorgrus Rift (https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxQW6xLa27Vy5TYRtfJVEL4gB5JSbxVb6P?si=qDL2c1JIxleGIDQU) is one of my favorite tunes in Warcraft, so I may have cheered a bit when that came up.
