Imagine screwing up so badly as a parent that even the golden child isn't on your side when conflict happens

One of the best responses to “why you bring up the past?“ Is “I’m revealing a pattern.“

The mom's behavior really clarifies why OP kept his distance from his parents initially.

EDIT: Dear GOD it somehow was worse than I feared.

On Update 3: Since when does another child have the responsibility of teaching his younger brother? That is 100% a parental job.

It’s certainly telling that Mark wasn’t even the biggest villain in this story…

@Omnywrench 4 months ago

"Just a mistake"? No, backing your car into a mailbox is a mistake. Putting salt in your coffee instead of sugar is a mistake. What OP's mom and brother did were deliberate acts of selfish, stupid cruelty.

@starbird3939 4 months ago

It is clear Mark was the golden child, and now the mom is lashing out because one of “mark’s toys” is actually not his toy and not obeying her golden child.

The sister was right that it would be a matter of time.

At age 40 my parents first reaction to my husband and i buying a house? "Does it have a room for your brother?" Should have gone no contact decades ago.

@hexmaniacrhea 4 months ago

Given the fact she ended up assaulting Jen, it was a miracle Op was there when the mom came by

It's pretty funny when someone tries to pull the "if they can't come to this event I won't be there either" card. Don't make that threat unless you're prepared to hear that person is willing to celebrate something without you too!

Imagine burning all of your family bridges YOU JUST STARTED FIXING because your golden son doesn't want to go to their brothers wedding. Like what??? He doesn't even want to go??? Making a huge deal out of literally nothing for no actual reason other than maybe some odd sense of control?? So strange

@TheMimiSard 4 months ago

With the way Mark calmed down, he strikes me as a relatively normal guy who just was influenced by being the golden child. He seems to be growing more sense as an adult.

Again. "keep the peace" is a keyword of evil.

@AndyyWithAY 4 months ago

It was very clear from the start Jen's side was the truth. She wasn't hung up on this man at all. Which is normal considering it was a 1 month relationship. I didn't see Mark proposing as trying to get Jen back, but as competing with OP. And, that's exactly what this was. Mark has watched too many movies made by men about psychotic exes. It's not normal at all to do all that he thought over a guy you dated a few weeks who dumped you cuz he got bored. Seeking out his brother and dating the brother just to get close? Psychotic. Not at all normal. He really thought he was the main character.

Omg the parents. Instead of raising your child punish your other child for not raising him. what kind of logic is that

@riel4553 4 months ago

Urgh, the graduation part. There's a certain kind of parent that will not be happy about you getting a diploma.

@aoi8653 4 months ago

At least one reason why the mother isn't learning is because 4 out of 5 people in the family continue to tolerate her. In a poll or Democracy, that's a clear majority proving she's in the right.

@Raichuvoltz 4 months ago

That mom is absolutely insane. I feel bad for all her children. I hope OPs sisters end up cutting her out too

@SinisterOL 4 months ago (edited)

Nothing makes me more mad than parents who blame their other kids for their golden child’s actions “He murdered someone but its your fault for not teaching him right” that is a extreme example but still. It is not your oldest child’s job to raise the youngest and teach then how to behave properly thats the parents job. Sure the older siblings and definitely help but most of it should fall on the parents, In my opinion anyway

Hearing the backstory of OP’s childhood I’m surprised OP didn’t give his mom a beating after she attacked Jenn. She ruined his childhood with the favoritism and is now attacking the love of his life just because he isn’t kissing the golden child’s ass, I wouldn’t have blamed OP if he RKO’d his mom after pulling her away from Jenn.
