shoutout to the VA who had to dub over arin's jar scream

@Kiloburn 1 year ago (edited)

I love how Arin gets the 'Tough Guy' VA and Danny gets the 'Slightly nerdy average guy' VA, but no one is talking about how Vanessa has the 'Every Woman in anime' VA. It's all so perfect. I don't know if I can ever go back to English.

The Japanese dub VA's made Danny and Arin sound like comedic-relief side characters who are trying to be villains but aren't bad at all once you get to season 2

Dan & Arin to high Mark in English:
"You're in a simulation"
"Everyone knows you're high"
"The end is near"

Dan & Arin to high Mark in Japanese:
"It's ok everyone does it"
"Where did you go wrong?"
"Don't panic... The police are on their way."

Arin's Japanese voice actor sounds like a barrel-chested 50-year-old who smokes and beats up people for a living.
Dan's Japanese voice actor sounds like high school harem anime protagonist #26.

No notes.

Hi, Mark here, was smoking when I was watching this, and recently I have been having existential anxiety.
Thanks game grumps! This was honestly such a trip

The dub actor genuinely did a fantastic job at 2:47, somehow imitating the uncomfortable moaning of a debatably-aroused Werner Herzog is no small feat

For those that didn't know, Way back times, the upper classes in Japan made it illegal for lower class people to even look fashionable. They wanted only the upper class to have fashion. So as a way around this, lower class women would use a bunch of these "ear picks" as hair pins. Then if they were stopped by police for having too many pins, they could say no, i"m just holding the ear cleaners for my kids. That is why they are so long.

I actually adored the dubbed version- I get to experience this video for the first time twice. 10/10 to the VA who dubbed it.

I love the Japanese voice actors! Dubbing over a scene happening in real time is difficult to do compared to anime or other similar fiction, so I think they did a really good job. I hope we can get a few more episodes like this, or maybe have another Power Hour in a different language like Spanish or French.

Arin's Florida instincts activated when he saw those gaters.

8:54 Dan went from Game Grump to Team Rocket in 0.08 seconds

You can tell Dan was an experienced stoner, because he knows exactly how to simply but effectively destroy a stoned mind.

It’s crazy that 5 months ago, those numbers were perfectly fine to say and had no alternate meaning when paired together

They actually scared me for a moment im that high Mark RN

1:49 As a headphone user...... No Dan, No it did NOT

@takahawko 1 year ago

the Japanese VA for Vanessa was spot on. At 5:52 she really captured the absolute gut-wrenching despair in Vanessa's voice at the idea of soiling Chip's mouth.

@FunctionalOnAWhim 1 year ago

You know Arin hand picked that dub voice

Dan and Vanessa are like "yeah I see it" and Arin is like "NO, I'M THE MAIN CHARACTER"

Some kid in Japan is going to come across this video and tomorrow they’re going to be showing their friends the funny men that are clapping at Pikachu.
