I read the Hunger Games for the first time...as an adult. That's right! I have never read the Hunger Games...and I'm a grown man. The Hunger Games is kind of a big deal (so I'm told), and I need to read it. So, this is it: I Read The Hunger Games For The First Time...As An Adult!

Ok I just finished the video and I LOVED hearing ur full thoughts on the series and IM SO HAPPY YOU LIKED IT AHHHH 😁
Also thanks for being the guinea pig and reading it chronologically bc not a lot of people have had that as their first experience w the series so it was so cool to live it vicariously through your eyes!

@samjennings22 1 year ago

Absolutely horrified that Ian read these in chronological order

@tylernook 1 year ago

mortified that someone would recommend reading this in chronological order. publication order is definitely the way to go. the prequels mean so much more if u know the original trilogy. i could see doing chronological order on a reread but not a first read...

@ch3rryIipz 1 year ago

whoever suggested to read these in chronological order is not your friend :/

I feel like Hungry Games is the 1984 of contemporary times. It will be read 20, 30, 40 years from now. However, you are crazy from reading them in chronological order.

These books get so over looked because people think they’re just some child romantic drama but I think the older you are, the more you’ll get out of it.

@Nadia_Guadalupe 1 year ago

I kinda wish this wasn't spoiler free because it mostly felt like you were just rehashing the general plot of the books. Just wanted to hear more of your reactions to certain scenes!

I personally think the rebellion was unavoidable. I think it started less with Katniss and the berries and more with Rue’s death, the berries just kept those flames fanned

"These are modern classics?" YES.

Oh Ian, I'm loving that you're finally reading The Hunger Games books because it's one of my favorite series ever but I really think that you should've read them in order of publication rather than in chronological order since that's how they're meant to be read and it makes the reading experience 1000 times better. :)

I honestly can't imagine reading these books for the first time as an adult especially in our current times. Sometimes when i think back on not even the physical violence, but the sheer amount of emotional & psychological damage that's depicted in those books, i can't believe that my early-teens self (12-15 years old) was able to stomach reading the OG trilogy with the fervor that i did. Now that i'm older, i think i'd have a much more difficult time getting through especially Mockingjay, reading through the compounding trauma & the cost of war depicted in those books.

And yet, i do believe that it was reading the OG trilogy at such a young age was what helped shape my compassion & my ability to empathize through the nuances of each character's situation which is the very reason reading the books is so difficult as an adult.

I find the amount of people pearl-clutching about the reading order hilarious.

I saw the first movie when it came out, but with the recent rise in popularity i actually did the same thing. I had a great time.

This will forever be a 5 star series for me.

I genuinely think that if someone’s watched the movies, reading the books in chronological order is fine - I did this and still thoroughly enjoyed them. If someone has never seen the movies, reading them in publication order would give them the best experience of the story. A great vid!!!

Ian, I’m old enough to be your mother and even I’ve read The Hunger Games. Glad you finally joined the club! 😊

Dystopia is looking like reality every second that passes

Never have I been tempted to read The Hunger Games, like ever. I thought watching the movies was probably more than enough but just like Ian, i dont remember much of it. So im very excited to start this series. Reading the comments though, sounds like publication order is the way to go

@InspiredamongstBooks 1 year ago

I didn't think chronological order was going to work for a first read - but then you had seen the movies so knew a little about it. You made it work! I keep putting off tearing my heart out and re-reading these so I can get to Sunrise, but ugh! If the algorithm and reminders of it all doesn't just have me in a choke hold! 🤪

10:52 this won't hit as hard without the trilogy 1st 😢

@bmsanpablo 1 year ago

16:28 In the books, it's stated that Katniss was the first volunteer after a very long time (kind of implicating that there was at least one before her). In the movies, it was explicitly implied that she's the first ever.
