In Episode 2 of Seven Trips to the Coast, I return to the same location as in the first episode, but this time, the coast has a very different mood.

It’s cold and windy, and I quickly realise that traditional landscape photography might not be the best approach on this particular evening.

Rather than forcing the conditions to give me the images I had originally imagined, I decide to experiment with the gear I have and look for a different way of photographing the landscape. This leads me into the world of multiple exposures, combining different elements of the scene together to create something more abstract and expressive.

Eventually, my attention turns away from the landscape altogether and towards the gulls. What follows are some of the images that moved me most during the entire trip.

This episode is about the importance of creativity in photography, and the idea that we don't need perfect weather, perfect light, or ideal conditions to make photographs we genuinely love. Sometimes we simply need to stop trying to make the photograph we thought we were going to make, and start responding to what is actually in front of us.

If you're interested in landscape photography, coastal photography, creative photography, multiple exposure photography, wildlife photography, or finding inspiration in difficult weather, I hope this episode encourages you to experiment, think differently and try something new.
