I will keep yelling from the rooftops... Andrew Garfield got ROBBED of the Oscar that year

The songs in the film were written by Jonathan. The heartbreaking part about the scene with Michael revealing his diagnosis is besides the diagnosis obviously is him thinking he was running out of time and Jonathan being unknowingly right about running out of time because Jonathan died in 1996 and Michael is actually still alive today,so between the two Jonathan was the one that had little time left.

In case no one told you: "Sunday Brunch" is a parody of the Steven Sondheim song "Sunday" from Sunday in the Park with George. The chords in the original are even more transcendent. It's meant to capture the impact of an artistic masterpiece, and it is one itself. When Sondheim died, Lin Manuel led a choir of Broadway performers in a memorial rendition of it at Time Square.

Sondheim recorded the phone message for the movie after hearing Bradley Whitford’s original version, and he said he wouldn’t have worded it that way. He rewrote it and recoded it for Lin-Manuel. He was an early supporter of both Jonathan and Lin.

All the music in the film was written by Jonathan Larson.  Lin explored the Jonathan Larson archives at the Library of Congress to get the music from Tick, tick… Boom! and Superbia.

There are so many theater references and cameos in the film.  The best place to learn about them all is the video on Howard Ho’s YouTube channel.

Michael is based on Jonathan's real life friend Matthew O'Grady.  He never developed AIDS and is alive today.
Julie, Jonathan's sister is in the film she's the lady on the front row wearing the blue scarf.  There were moments where she had to leave filming because she said it was like having her brother back.

Andrew Garfield said recently that he doesn't tend to watch his own work but Tick Tick Boom is an exception and I love that

during sunday the diner is filled with broadway icons

13:33 Imagine calling Stephen Sondheim a critic and saying “Go get a real job” to the greatest composer in Broadway history 😬

If you watch the end credits, you will see footage of the real Jonathan Larson.  You will see how well Andrew Garfield captured him.  Andrew Garfield was nominated for an Oscar for this role, but lost to Will Smith.

Im so glad to see this reaction. I love this film (even if it does make me cry) and im glad more and more people are finding out about it

Yesss one of my favorite musicals ever!!

Michael's actor, Robin de Jésus, was Sonny in the Original Broadway Cast of In The Heights. Not really sure about the details, but that was something of a huge deal for lgbtq representation in theatre, cause he even got nominated for a Tony

i feel like this is such an underrated movie and it's absolutely brilliant. beautiful in every way, Andrew deserved that oscar

The older blonde woman in the focus group is played by another Broadway musical veteran—as a child actor, she was the original Little Red Riding Hood in Sondheim’s Into the Woods back in the ‘80s.

Those weren't actually critics (12:56), though Bloom was definitely critical; they were the head of the workshop and a working composer. Bradley Whitford was playing  Stephen Sondheim. Jonathan explained who they were at the beginning of the scene, and the importance of Sondheim's view of Jonathan's work was important to him throughout the movie.

I've not had many opportunities to, but I've never seen anyone appreciate Sunday as much as I do, thank you for that. Just an incredible song made even better by the absolutely bonkers cameos.

If you want more, there is one more scene that was cut from the movie that Lin put on youtube called Green Green Dress. I actually wish he had kept it in but understand why he didn't. I am still so mad that Andrew's Oscar is in Will Smith's house 😕

Now we need reaction for RENT. Both the movie version and the stage version. 🥰
