When our classic games were new it was all we had. They were super expensive. Availability varied a lot as well.

That scarcity made us made the most of the games we could get.

For the cost of 2 games a year in today's dollars you have a near infinite gaming library with PS+ or Xbox or Steam.

This has really changed the standard for gaming. For better or worse, the scarcity when this was a new game is what made it great. Only a few friends would have it and you needed something they wanted  in order to play it!!!!!

I’ve only ever seen one guy beat this game in person, on a 13 inch basement tv, while standing up and without game genie. It blew my mind and still does.

What pisses me off the most is that here I am at 42 and just learning that you can switch turtles during the game. That would have helped me immensely when I played this damned game as a kid.

After watching this video, I bought the turtles collection on ps 4 today. Need some closure.

Fun watch! TMNT was one of the few NES games I owned as a kid. The mechanics are definitely frustrating by modern standards, but back then, it was awesome just to explore that world as the Turtles. I drew maps, took notes, and learned to hoard scrolls for the brutal late levels. I actually managed to beat it one summer at my cousin's house, and we completely lost our minds when the ending credits rolled. Thanks for the great memories!

The fact that people have made rom hacks or modernizations of games like TMNT and Simon’s Quest show they made an impression on a lot of people. They aren’t bad games, but they aren’t quite refined enough and were limited by the technology of the time. When that is fixed they are really quite good.

I spent many hours of frustration as a kid playing this, but it was the kind of frustration that caused me to keep loading it up. Actually beat it as a pre-teen, and that made my year.

The music in this game is some of the best in the NES library!

That title music will always touch my heart.

I beat this game when I was 8. It was brutal. After the technodrome is when the difficulty really ramps up!

One of the first games I had on the NES. Was really let down when I first got it since my favorite turtle is Raphael. On the bright side there were 4 of him on the label. Was my 8th Birthday present. Took me a few days of trying to beat it. My tendency to play NES and Genesis skyrocketed when I got the N64 since I didn't like most of the games on it. So TMNT got played a lot as a consequence.

We all do. Its a game made for kids but designed for adults or people with extremely high skills. I only got to the roof tops...never passed that

The “drones” remind me of the movie Batteries Not Included.

THe most I could do on this game was getting to the 3rd area back in the day. That DAM level always left me almost turtle-less.

I HAVE never been able to make that first jump or any of the others going through. Playing this game on the switch (cowabunga) collection, and using save states, I can finally finish this game. That second to last building was always where I would throw my controller.

Can confirm - made it to the end as a kid, was a once in a lifetime event.

I beat this game as a kid. I've always loved it.

I really appreciate the satire and humor. You are representing the thoughts and opinions of all us 10 year olds sitting in front of that floor tv playing this game in 1990. LOL

I bloody hatted this game and still do lol. The turtle van level just broke me lol.

I remember this game. It had the potential to turn TMNT into a horror franchise.
