If Microsoft hadn't stopped him, Chris would still be making Freelancer today

"[Squadron 42 is] supposed to come out this year"
A few hours ago they moved the release date to Q2 2027

The fact that any digital good can be "in/out of stock" is wild use of FOMO.

I feel like if L. Ron Hubbard were alive today, he'd be crowdfunding a game.

The interview of Mark Hammil being questioned about his role in Squadron 42 and he couldn't even remember the name of the game was classic. I could feel the hurt from Chris Roberts from Australia when Hammil didn't care, he just took his money.
Classic Star CItizen viewing.

One day a PhD candidate is going to write their doctoral thesis about the SC fanbase.

😾💢 "Its your show Herring, wrap it up." 🐈

Crazy that NMS hit 10 years, and over 40 FREE updates, and we STILL don't have S42. Enjoyed Wing Commander, and Freelancer was one of my favorite space games next to Elite. A friend and I backed SC in the early days, I dropped a pile of cash on a Starfarer with gunship package and he picked up several small ships. STILL waiting for a real game. Recently decided to give Elite Dangerous a shot since I loved the originals back in the day. A ship in ED costs less than a meal at a restaurant, and can pretty easily be bought in game as well, just looked up the real money cost for the Starfarer and it shows $175 orignally, $300 current, oof.

Chris figured out the greatest neverending money faucet ever, next to Big Pharma, there's no money in a complete game/cure compared to keeping people hooked on shiny new toys/medications for life.

We got GTA 6 before Star Citizen.

It isn't a good sign when the CEO of any company can't read the room.

It's truly a shame people didn't archive all the things these people did. From buying 25k spaceship like doors for their office to getting sued by a guy dying of cancer and many others. Most of them were scrapped off the internet.

When I try explaining this mess to people for the first time, I don’t say “it’s a scam.” I start with “it’s a cult” and everything that follows is taken into the proper context.😂

A digital asset being listed as "in stock" with a price of $48,000 tells you everything you need to know about this cult scam

Funny how a developer with 4 studios hasn't released a single game. What are we doing here

Star Citizen is a financing plan at this point.

I was doing thesis when I heard the first announcement of Star Citizen.
I have 3 kids today and they still in alpha.

OG backer with a physical LTI package (yes, the original one that offered a copy of the game with a RSI constellation USB stick when their goal was like $1 - $5.5m [lol]), watched it go from proof of concept > alpha test > potential vaporware > potential scam > potential cult.

It's been an insane one and a half decade ride lol.

30,000 plus hours a week going into a game?  Sounds like an audit needs to be done with money being spent.

People who paid thousands likely unfortunately died before the game came out.

Elite dangerous on the other hand has aged really well and consistently received huge game updates. That’s all I need for a space sim MMO
