Where it went wrong: "Let's make 1000 planets with nothing to do on them, and hire a lead writer that thinks the writing in an RPG doesn't matter."

"...maybe there are TWO moons overhead..."

Oh man, Bethesda has never made a game with something THAT crazy in it

the algorithm has without fail kept sending me starfield critique videos
and i dont hate it

It's crazy that a game with a built-in reset button is afraid of letting the player make mistakes.

It should have been that one playthrough would leave the player locked out of a ton of other stuff, and when they reset they can make new decisions.

Starfield is amazing.
It has given me tens of hours of entertainment, despite me never having played it

Have I watched every star field critique ever made? No. Will I watch one when recommended to me? Probably.

ahh.. my fav yt genre, starfield autopsy

I find it weird how they handled exploration like it's still the Skyrim medieval times. No matter where you go, someone has been there before you.

The moment I heard Todd say how many planets there were in the game, I knew it was f*ked.

My favorite part of the UC questline is Vae Victus acting like he is the mastermind that is beyond approach until you just tell him "Im gonna go tell UC command what youre doing." And then he just crumbles. A literal 5 year old could have ended his plans in a single recess at school.

20:40 And Neil Armstrong wasn't exactly just hanging around taking in the scenery either, he constantly had tasks and things to monitor

The fact the US flag on the moon isn't bleached ,but instead looks old like it was weathered on earth, tells you exactly what these people know about designing and writing space.
Hell it would've bleached ON EARTH at the time Starfield takes place...

Starfield is a game about exploring with nothing to explore.

About Daggerfall:
Procedural generation was used to initially generate the towns, but they were altered by the team and had fixed layouts in every playthrough. There were also handcrafted dungeons for the main quest.
The landscape for the game world is also static, with only the foliage and various other bits being generated atop it.
The locations of towns and dungeons are also static, though dungeon layouts are randomized.
It is very, very different from how Starfield does it.
I assume you've never played Daggerfall, and are going by what you've heard, which is a trend whenever it's brought up.
The problem with Starfield wasn't the use of procedural generation, rather it was their mis-use of it, I think if they scaled back the number of planets to like, a hundred or so, generated them, then altered them to have interesting locations, it would've made for a better game.

This was the first game in years I've felt scammed by, I think it's all from the hope shattering that Bethesda would finally find itself again.

The irony of that Emil quote.
What I think he was getting at was that if the mechanics are too fun to put down, then you will not notice the story.
With Starfield, there is almost no story, so when the bare bones mechanics wear thin, you suddenly find nothing else there, and bet bored

This video had more work put in that Emil writing starfield lore

The thing about Starfield is that nearly every other space game does space better than it.
Do you see space as mysterious? Play outer wilds.
Do you want to FEEL the journey between planets? Play elite dangerous.
Do you want to nomadically soar through the galaxy? Play no mans sky.
Do you want to conquer the scientific challenges associated with space? Play kerbal space program.
Do you want to do interstellar politics and warfare? Play stellaris.
Are you terrified of space? Play alien isolation.

Starfield was made to be a sandbox for modders to add worthwhile content to, but like putting the cart before the horse, they did not realize that no one will mod a game that wasn’t ever fun to begin with

My thoughts were all the empty planets just screamed they were trying to give modders a sandbox, but they never made the base game exciting enough to buy it for the mods
