I can’t help cringing whenever people talk with a weird reverence about the royals I don’t understand how they actually take it so seriously they’re just random wealth hoarders

I've always found some people's devotion to the monarchy strange. As an Irish person who once lived in England for a bit, it was an experience to listen to people talk about it, it's like they don't realize how outlandish and strange it is, like approaching an uncontacted island and realizing they revere some random dude as a God for no reason.

This video captured the pomp and pageantry of the royal family really well

the loyalty to the royals literally feels like the whole country has collectively got Stockholm syndrome lmao😧 also wtf is pomp and how can anyone say it with a straight face

i had such an interesting experience when the queen died.

im not british, im iranian. i used to work at this hostel in turkey when the queen died. there was this british guest i was good friends with and the second he came through the door i told him about queens death and he was so happy. because he was very much anti monarchy. then this other british guest comes in and they get into a fight because the second guy was pro monarchy and was like "she is someone's grandma. be respectful" and the first guy was like "i dont care about someone else's grandma also she was a colonist" AND THIS IS ALL HAPPENING IN FRONT OF A THIRD GUEST WHO WAS IRISH. he was just sitting there drinking beer, celebrating, and staring at these two yell at each other. honestly the funniest moment of my work there.

also fuck the monarchy

To me, a Brazilian girl who lives in France, the royalties are just the same as any celebrity from Hollywood. Too bad the Brexit happened tho, it was so easy to go to UK before.

British ppl pay for a TV license so they can watch tv..
They also pay for the Royals for the drama and entertainment...lol

As a Canadian (commonwealth nation), I view the monarchy as an expensive relic that represents the oppression and colonization of our Native American population. They also represent wealth inequality. Recently, a statue of Elizabeth II was erected in Toronto that cost more than a million dollars to make. We had to reprint our currency for Charles, which cost millions. We were expected to pay for the security of Harry and Meghan when they first intended to live in Canada - to the tune of more than $6 million per year, until the government refused. All of this lead to a public outcry. All this despite the fact that polls show less than half of Canadians support the monarchy.

The argument about the Monarchy bringing in tourism is absolute bollocks. Tourists would still visit.
I mean, look at what France did with their monarchy.... And I don't see them losing tourists 😂

the devotion to the royals and the fucking fits people wear to see them is probably the most american britain can get

@sairasmart5836 2 years ago

if the money is the problem just turn Buckingham palace into a museum

As an outside looker i believe England tieslike 90% of their own culture and national identity to the royal family, ya'll need to.. break up with them and find your true selves or sumn

@Lily-en2uk 2 years ago

honestly as a canadian i find our connection to the royals weird. i remember once getting into an argument with some older family members about why we still have so many ties to the monarchy and why i should care about them at all, and really the only answer i got was just because <3

@InsoIence 2 years ago

My partner is British and he always repeats "But they are bringing so much tourism" and I'm always like... 'Dude, I am the foreigner. I come here. Pretty much none of us care about monarchy, it's a gimmick. Buildings will be there regardless of monarchy.' And then he finally did some googling into how much of his tax goes to the crown.

(Bonus content: "Foreigners come here for the NHS!" lul)

Missed opportunity to let the distinquished Rom Weafley talk at the start.
Edit: to be serious though, as a gen z american, I havent really heard or cared much about the royal family. It really does sound like if the Kardashians ruled America though. When are we starting the revolution?
