It’s so refreshing to see love for this game after seeing a few Crossworlds content creators have been doom posting about the state of the game. A year later and this game is still so addictive and wonderful and easily my favorite racing game of all time previously held by Sonic Riders. It was a joy hearing your talking points, here’s to another phenomenal year!

realy good video, um preaty happy this game is as alive as the day it lounches 1 year later

The difference is that all the previous Sonic Racers were made by a 3rd party. But Crosswords is made inhouse by SEGAs arcade racer developers, who have been making the best arcade racers since the early 90s.

Played it yesterday after months of not playing and somehow I got 3rd place frist online race in months

Been in love with this game too and even tho Mario Kart is my favorite franchise ever, I have to give the props to SEGA for doing with their racing game what I wanted Nintendo to have done with Mario Kart. The kart customization in this game is the best of both worlds: you have the option to fully customize your vehicles but at the same time on the vehicle select screen prior to a race, you just choose the already done combinations which definitely makes multiplayer with friends simpler and faster. Had a blast and spent a lot of time creating fun vehicles alongside my sister!

19:00 nowaying I know that guy on the phone….

Love this game but is extremely underrated, SEGA itself called it's sales underwhelming.

Woah you have so many tickets and I only yesterday maxed out friendship with Espio for achievement

5:04  IS THAT TORO INOUE?????

also yes this game might genuinley be one of my favroite kart racers of all time. And tbe fact that SEGA singlehandedly encourages peeps to mod the game to add any character they want (Toro in this case lol) is mind blowing and makes the game a whole lot fun. I gotta buy this in full whenever i can get a job in the future 😁

I agree with a lot of your takes! The car customization is fantastic, the tracks are fun, the gameplay feels immaculate, and holy shit is it fun to throw characters on whatever vehicle you want and make it work. There are two things I want to debate you on, though, and the first is your opinion on gadgets - specifically, how you neglect to mention any balance issues and seemingly excuse a lot of people using the same optimal build as 'people copying competitive players'. I totally get where you're coming from, and I don't think you meant for it to come across as insinuating that people can be meta slaves, but there's a reason why Hyper Ring Engine absolutely dominates over EVERYTHING right now lol. It really devalues the customization aspect when, even if people make builds they're comfortable with, they're immediately inferior to a build that does everything you'd want from it and benefits you far more than anything else you could potentially muster up.

That only matters if you're racing purely to win, though. If you're racing for fun, then screw it, do what you want lol.

The other thing I want to raise a fuss about is the music. Personally, I think the fact that every song is electronic makes it sound... congested? I mean, for some songs, it works super well. EDM is perfect for Sand Road, it fits well with Apotos, and I enjoy Metal Harbor's lap 1 theme. But it sometimes sounds like mono audio is being shoved through a stereo speaker, and all the guitar n' shit is choked to hell. It's hard for me to explain how I truly feel about it, but obviously, that's just my opinion.

Again, I agree with almost everything else you say. This is a video from the heart, I can tell, and I'm happy other people can make videos like this - purely to express how much they love a game. Keep racin', my man

I think im gonna buy the game, this video soo good and the game looks fun.

Apotos sucks! Great video.

7:48 git gud

chao park does suck but kronos sucks way harder than apotos

They had a great beginning, but in the truest Sega tradition, they started to bumble around on the little success that fell onto their lap. No spoken dialogue/monologues on DLC characters, lagging behind balancing meta, and the game became stale within 2 months. I wish I could praise Sega. I also have to be a responsible consumer and whip a corpo when they f around.

Well, Tangle & Whiaper are poorly written characters, so I understand why people dislike them. They also seem like Ian's personal plants, likes like his poor writing with Amy, Cream, Vector,  Sonic,  Knuckles, Tails, Rouge, Eggman, Metal Sonoc, Sage, & Shadow. (Even Omega-123 gets poorly stuff, which is hard to mess up.)

No one would ever care about the pair if Ian was not so insistent that his idw comics & the terrible shows were part of the mainline time line. (Wow. Ian, Sticks the Bagar totally is in the main canon, right?)  It just seems like they are being forced into sonic media when the Archie comic characters were almost all completely ignored from the rest of sonic media. (It does not help that Ian Flynn obviously  lies to us and uses Sega as a scapegoat for his terrible writing choices.) Ian is the reason why Sonic Frontier was even worse than an average 2000's sonic game. People only praise it because it beat the smallest threshold that is called sonic forces. Congrats. You are better than a F+ game. Frontier is barely a D+.

Tangle's biggest flaw is that she is just girl sonic & does not learn. Whisper gimmick is dumb and her story is redundant.

My rant aside, I do like Sonoc Cross Racing. It is fun, but Ian sticks his cancerous hands in this one with his terrible dialogue choices.  (Metal should definitely talk. Him being mute is dumb. Omega does not have a mouth, so there is no excuse for his silence.)  I love the gameplay of the game. I think it is almost as good as both Kriby Air Rides.
