Instead of Raiding. You are defending against a Raid. You have to gather resources to Defend against 5 Waves (bosses). For example: Wave 1: Boss summons a ton of minions you need to supply your troops with food/armor.(Cook/Smith) Wave 2: You need to upkeep the wall (Wc/Con). It could be randomized so you can adapt and would support fun team play.

Rs3 has Croesus and if we had multiple things like that we could do a skilling raid easily.

Talking about a sailing raid, there could be different islands that require different skills and would be randomized upon using a map that you get from a pirate lord. There could be a jungle island you need to chop trees and weeds using an axe and Machete, a marine island where you need to thieve parts of a key to put together from different NPCs, working on different parts of a forge for a lone dwarf to help him make a cannon to stave off enemies.

There are so many cool angles to a skilling raid. I wonder if they could implement a system where doing things perfectly would net you a boost of bonus xp among the skills used in the raid at the end. Maybe thatd be too hard to figure out though.

Realistically there could be a tiered skilling item that has to be upgraded that’s only usable within the raid until the megarare item is received to attach it the skilling item to use it outside the raid.

rs3 has a couple examples of skilling bosses they could use as inspiration. Can't imagine a full raid would get that much hype unfortunately, but I'd definitely want to see it

I would come to the game for a skilling raid just to see how it would work.

10 room raids with 23 optional rotations sounds very interesting

The merger rare is just a Swiss army knife with every tool in it

osrs hasnt worked out how to make skilling fun enough to make an entire raid yet, if we could work out some larger scale skilling methods that people enjoy, then we could move onto a skilling raid discussion, hallowed sepulchre and bloodwood woodcutting are examples of good skilling design to me

I think more discussion should be around J1mmy's idea around a sailing raid - when you start the raid you do go into an instance, but the island distribution, number, size, and features on them are always randomly generated (or from a simpler dev pov have possible combinations of map elements).
The key that makes this idea so vibrant is that it invites a continuous experience of exploration (something deeply lacking in day-to-day osrs) - you would always have to explore and coordinate with your team as you learnt more about the map...
The randomness of the instance then wards away set routines --> pluginscape --> feeling just like a larger version of a skilling minigame.
This is a chance to potentially take some inspiration from civ building strategy games that generate random maps.
However to make this feel uniquely old school and not like it's trying to be another game, it HAS to have enough rhythm based areas of play - this is the future of skilling btw.
A side note because this is perhaps the most relevant time that I could mention this - give us different castle wars maps to run capture the flag on.
Downside of this idea from jagexs pov is that this may end up requiring you to be in a discord call to coordinate, and i'm sure they'd want it to be accessible to those who don't want to be on a call with randos or don't have a clan.

I see a lot of great ideas in the comments but no one's framing those ideas in terms of rounds/rooms/phases that we see in current raids.
Therefore to add to the idea above, there could be an preparation phase on land near a dock, sea exploration and gathering/building on islands, then finding a door that leads into a cavern where a final boss fight takes place for example.

Finally to address whether this should have any combat involved, these could always be turned on/off through invocations. Although I think adding in enemies that attack you whilst you're trying to traverse an island or potentially climb onto your boat, given that their mechanics make it so you can't just pray or tank their hits, would make it infinitely more interesting.

i don’t know what rewards would look like but i feel like if they added something basically like the game unrailed that could include a bunch of different skills to help move a payload type thing. like chopping down trees and mining rocks to clear a path and like smithing or construction to create the rails. that way it’s not like a combat or puzzle activity but can still be relatively high apm

Y'all aren't cooking hard enough but that's totally fine. A slam dunk room would be a tree boss that is functionally identical to pvm but uses axes(wc) for melee and other creative ideas for long range cmb as well. And instead of prayer flicking ( to keep it accessible to lvl 3 skillers), you can use different skills to mitigate/avoid damage similar to prayers.

A skilling raid can absolutely be a banger raid if it is designed by skillers with pvm inputs

I didn't know I needed this... until I saw this exact combination of words... maybe a raid boss like tanglefoot where your skilling levels factor into damage dealt & taken from the boss?

the skilling bosses are fairly fun, i think it would be a great idea to add more of those, a raid feels way to hard to balance for rewards, exp, etc

I could imagine a colossal ent boss(es) which you traverse across the whole raid where you try to quell it before it goes out of control. Those ents in Auburn vale are only the babies, just wait until you go to a town that is getting invaded by these redwood ents.

You could Agil from branch to moving branch (with the new Z axis engine improvements), Woodcutting and burning key elements of the ent. You could catch beaver like creatures and release them onto the ent and create traps to slow down ents before they do too much damage. Construct and fletch pathways made from the ent itself to get to certain areas and rebuild the town and key fortifications. You could farm certain deadly mushrooms that infect the ent to harm it and create potions to repel them.

A skilling raid would need to be PvE rather than PvM

This could just be a skilling boss rather than raids. Where normal combat isn't effective against these colossal monsters ( I could see a massive kraken type boss work well here too) and we need to use the adventurers ingenuity to overcome it.

This is a fun topic. Lots to think about, but I don't think we can preclude the idea of a skilling raid in the future of the game. I'd love to see what the devs and community come up with.

Yo a skilling raid would be awesome

You start the raid on your boat. You sail past crazy storms to get into a cave of gold. Than you have to mine/ construct yourself a shaft and tunnel. You go thru and in every room it incorporates every non combat skill in the game. You gotta make potions and runes. Ect. sounds like a blast ! Theres so many opportunities and I berly skill but I'd definitely play it

A megare for a skilling raid would be agility boots that give xp from running  and theiving gloves that autopickpocket
