moving rings off the wildy bosses into low level slayer is such a good idea

The Mod Rice group hug really made me smile

3:05:23 Travag’s point about separate floors allowing for separate mechanics is really cool. Similar to what Travis said, you could have an alter/lectern on a floor that you use before entering the next floor, that allows you to change spellbooks. maybe one room you need to telegrab or alch like that one WGS fight. or maybe you need demon bane for a floor boss. etc. the idea that the room itself changes every wave allows for a lot of creative freedom. we don’t need inferno part 2 imo

Regarding the Zanik's Modified Crossbow effect, the wiki calculates hit chance based on the maximum values of your accuracy roll and the target's defence roll. What ACTUALLY happens under the hood is you rolling for accuracy and fighting the enemy's defence roll. However your roll is always within a minimum and maximum possible range. So is the case with the target's defence roll.

Based on that, you can derive a statistical hit chance using the maximum values that define your range. So if your attack roll max is A, and target's defence roll max is D, and thinking of this as a discrete distribution, we know there are (A+1)*(D+1) possibilities of pairs of rolls.

Suppose your attack rolls are 0,1,2,3....A and the defence rolls are 0,1,2,3,4...D. We know that for the first possible attack roll, you beat 0 defence rolls. The 2nd attack roll (a 1) you beat only 1 defence roll (a 0), and so on. So you get a sum of: 0 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5.... + A.
This well known finite sum is A*(A+1)/2

So the probability of beating the defence roll for A<D is: A(A+1)/2 / ((A+1)(D+1)) which simplifies to A/(2*(D+1)), just as shown in the wiki!

Now the case for when A_max>D_max, it's a slightly more complicated derivation. But it goes like 0 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4.... + D. After this point, the A rolls will always beat the defence rolls. so you get +D  a number of times equal to the difference of A and D. so the formula becomes: D(D+1)/2 + (A-D)*(D+1). Notice how the first part is the same as the first case but with D instead of A, and the 2nd part is the part of roll ranges of A that are strictly always greater than any possible defence roll, so they beat all D+1 rolls. And the number of outcomes that can be beat is A-D in this case.

Simplifying all this you get: (D+1)(A-D/2). Divide by the total possibilities of (A+1)(D+1), you get: 1-(D+2)/(2*(A+1)), just as shown in the wiki for the case of A_max>D_max.

TL;DR: you can prove that the hit chances in the wiki are the statistical chance of hitting an enemy based on an arbitrary range of attack rolls, defined by your maximum attack roll, and an arbitrary range of defence rolls, defined by the enemy maximum defence roll. What actually happens under the hood is actual attack and defence rolls [0,A_max] and [0,D_max] respectively. But the chance to hit can be derived through statistics and probability. The wiki really ought to not call the calculated values Attack and Defence rolls, and instead call them Maximum Attack and Maximum Defence rolls, to signify that you and the enemy are still rolling a number within your respective ranges behind the scenes. But it is what it is.

I love Mod Rice so much, literally so lucky he's a dev for our game

Crafting your own rune armour may be a naive fantasy BUT it is a fantasy created by your introduction to smithing on tutorial island. Just because it hasn't been that way doesn't mean it shouldn't be.
Also the magic shortbow comparison seems a bit of a stretch, it's much easier/quicker to fletch your own oak, willow and maple shortbows while doing an initial woodcutting grind as a new account. So even if you don't end up making your first magic shortbow, that fantasy is fulfilled to some degree.
Whereas absolutely noone ever makes their own mithril let alone rune armour. It's just much slower and the levels are much higher for mining/smithing.
The hot/cold smithing does intrigue me though.
Anyway love the casts as always even if I disagree this time Sae Bae. Much love.

For smithing: Why not middle ground it both? Smithing doesn't have linear level gaps, and they could be clamped. Steel to mith and mith to addy have a +20 level gap instead of +15 for the other wearable metals. Bars: 45 vs 50 mith, 60 vs 70 addy, 75 vs 85 rune. There's also a level skip at x5 & x7 for every metal between the 2h sword, legs, and platebody. Rune is currently the only exception. Clamp all that too. So 1 level less for legs and 2 levels less for platebodies. This would make cold smithing rune platebodies at 91 vs 99. It makes it so you unlock a new item at every level and opens the 92- 99 smithing space (92 is the highest mining unlock as well). If you introduce hot smithing as described in the video, you end up with hot smithing a rune scimmy at 40 and a rune platebody at 46.

Also: If you move arrowtips down to the beginning of each metal, you could even balance it perfectly with fletching for that fletching comparison. 45/45 mith arrows, 60/60 addy arrows, 75/75 rune arrows. The magic shortbow is still 5 levels higher, but it's much more reasonable.

max accuracy roll means it will roll a number that then is checked with a npcs defense roll, so a npc with a high defense(like kree)can still roll above the max roll of the crossbow. But i could still see that crossbow being good there.

Regarding Mining and Smithing discussion: Sae, you said yourself that all of the low level armors, like Bronze through Adamant are essentially useless, but still you feel that 80 is an appropriate bracketing requirement for Rune armor. Is it therefore your desire for the products of levels 1-80 Smithing to be useless? Bracketing Rune so high would leave the  problem that a rework is attempting to solve unaddressed (armor is not craftable at its relevant level/place in a player's journey). It sounds more to me that you feel that because the early game is so solved, and because knights sword skips so many early levels, that essentially new accounts would have access to Rune armor within a few hours. I'd propose that to keep the early Smithing levels and products engaging and important, The Knights Sword no longer give the colossal amount of Smithing XP it rewards, but rather a much smaller XP reward along with access to the Hot Smithing system, or whatever equivalent allows the crafting of the armor to be done earlier. This would keep the early metal tiers as meaningful and distinct points of progression while allowing the Hot Smithing system to collapse the distance between them.

As a casual player, I’m considering hardcore main mode for a couple of reasons. The biggest appeal is its simplicity. A lot of OSRS endgame has become so technical that I rarely get to enjoy it. I’ve played my iron for a couple of years and my main for three, and this mode feels easy to understand and get excited about.

The early game sounds especially appealing: money matters, but you’ll also need to go out and get your own gear while the economy develops. For a while, that seems like a fun mix of main and iron gameplay. With the other updates coming for early and midlevel players, I can see a lot of opportunities in hardcore main worlds that I don’t feel I have in the main game.

The other big reason is that resetting actually sounds appealing. Keeping my account name and login while getting to try again really speaks to the “I can do it better this time” part of me—without having to make five million accounts.

I enjoy those “starting over from nothing” videos, but those players still have their levels, diary rewards, quest items, and stashes. This would truly be, “Oh no! I’m starting over from nothing.” And honestly, that sounds fun.

The council has arrived

Hotsmithing barrows to "repair", while free, takes a lot longer instead of paying out the ass would be a great addition. Love the conversations & W Mod Rice.

Regarding The Tower discussion: The Inferno and Colosseum share an identity where at their core, they are wave based, and in order to complete them, there's a level of strategic complexity that's greater than most other content in the game in addition to technical complexity. There's still the expectation that gear and your technical ability will play big roles in how successful you are, but as you mentioned, the inventory management for Inferno is sometimes harder than the waves themselves, and despite hating it, the Colosseum has the modifier system, and it's those elements of strategic complexity that I think they should try to incorporate into whatever The Tower becomes. It would be a missed opportunity to let the encounter be entirely driven by gear and the technical complexity that is prayer flicking and gear switching, with no strategic nuance.

I also love the idea that it could be a duo encounter to innovate on the formula and to give The Tower a distinct identity. I'm not sure that The Tower being the thing that awards the BIS mage cape is the right place for more duo content, but I'm in total agreement that OSRS is at its best when you can share the experience with someone else, and I think it's an avenue they should explore.

Considering The Tower were a duo encounter for the moment, I think it could easily become the most strategy-driven content in the game if done well. A solo encounter is bound by your 28 inventory slots, your gear, and one action per tick. If you double those by adding a second player to the encounter, the encounters can become less bound by the normative and practiced restrictions that we have as players, and we could see things like needing two players with different gear/combat styles equipped to perform actions on the same enemy on the same tick, or things like that. The waves/floors would become much more like complex puzzles to solve, where you and your partner have to figure out which one of you takes each monster's focus, and I think there's definitely appetite for encounters that challenge our strategy, not just our technical ability.

I love some of these skilling ideas. Thieving “daeyalt essence”, skilling clogs are also so fun to go for. Think of simple activities such as chin pet from any chinchompa type, except appropriately more common and it being utility in some way

Mining animation would just copy what they did with the bloodwood trees, where you can have pull back your pickaxe and click the rock, and higher tier pickaxe would reduce the amount of animation you would need to get the ore, this will reward higher click accuracy.

Even if Runite ore was dropped to level 50 mining, it is already bottlenecked by the lack of runite rocks, and how slow it is to mine it. Also having to travel to deep wildy for some runite ore and bring it back to the main cities and smelt it into rune armour would be an amazing experience for new players.

Derk is usually spelled Dirk. I know he said the name came from a movie or something and i was trying to find the reference but found that Dirk & Steele is an 11 book romance fantasy series. Great cast!

Smithing doesn't need to be the bis pathing for rune armor early on, but it should be an option. Worrying about things like armor at 99 smithing being bis to rush feels like a bit of a stretch. You could rush 95 rc for wrath runes, but there are multiple requirements to be able to craft those. DS2, getting a wrath talisman, 95 RUNECRAFTING.
I definitely get these worries if they are coming from a PoV worried about smithing coming in and taking over, but it doesn't have to take over. It just has to make more sense than rune platebodies at 99 smithing

16:13 I feel like you should be able to switch memberships in your jagex account. If you wanna play hardcore, switch the subscription to the hardcore profile and when you die, switch it back to the main

On the smithing rework and relationship between the skill levels: I really like the balance for the Hunter's Sunlight Crossbow and that hit the fantasy for me that I was expecting out of smithing.

66 ranged to wield, 74 to fletch. It gives the impression that the person who made the weapon has a certain mastery that Archy McBowface simple doesn't have.

The levels being within the same ballpark, but offset feels thematically appropriate to me.

I'd never want anything you can smith from raw materials to be close to Barrows - but the idea that I could craft my own equipment to have a respectable base set of weapons & armour to start my pvm journey with.

Its the reason why I've been that kind of weirdo who is really liking Hunter. Being able to progress my kit by crafting it has been really fufilling.

Regarding smithing, I think clamping it back a bit but not putting everything on one level would be a good idea. There could be multiple tiers of items that have them all made within a 5 or 10 level bracket. Theb on top that we could have something like hot smithing that reduces the level required by something like half, or just a fixed level. Then with higher levels opened up, smithing could be combined with bosses drops, in a similar way to Oathplate, bars for a certain armour could be dropped which would also act as dry protection. There are plenty of possible ideas. Instead of something like Chromium ingots it could be mined and smithed which are used to fix armour or weapons.
