04:05 What should I do when I'm depressed?
14:00 Why can't I be positive about treatment?
18:18 Today's homework
Today, I'm going to talk about the theme of "For people who want to die now".
Since this is the title, I think some people are watching my channel for the first time, so let me introduce myself briefly.
I'm a psychiatrist practicing at Waseda University, and I've been on YouTube since December 2018.
I use a whiteboard like this to make videos about illnesses and various topics that are discussed in the psychiatric clinic every day, but this time I'm making a video for people who want to die.
I'm filming this in December 2024, and I think the video will be uploaded at the end of December, but I'm probably planning to upload it at Christmas.
What can I say?
I think a lot has happened this year.
There's still one month left when I'm filming this, but I feel like a lot has happened.
While there were many encounters, there were also many partings, and many people passed away.
When I think about it, there are people who have passed away.
I have experienced death, including friends and family, and because I do this kind of work, I think I have encountered death indirectly many times, such as when patients or their family members pass away.
My family moved a lot as a child, and after that, I joined the Self-Defense Forces, which also moved a lot.
When I left the Self-Defense Forces and became a practicing doctor, I put down roots in the community and gradually made more acquaintances, so I was not reset.
Since human relationships are not reset very often, it is natural that as you gradually make more acquaintances, the number of deaths and partings also increases.
People will die even if you leave them alone, so whether it's cancer, an accident, a myocardial infarction, old age, or an accident caused by dementia, people will die, but the more encounters you have, the more you will encounter death.
I have children myself, and in my clinical practice with parents, I am often asked how to talk about death, to children who want to die, or to younger children who ask what happens if they die, and I am not sure what to say.
There is no right answer, and you have to explain it in words that the child can understand, and that is how I feel now.
I think it is quite difficult to explain death to the people who watch this.
Although this is a channel like this, I don't talk about pretty things, and since psychiatrists are scientists, I will talk about death from a scientific perspective.
◾️What to do when you are depressed
Basically, when you think about suicide or want to die, it is called a depressive state.
It is the same as the depressive state of depression.
It is a depressive state.
This can come from depression, postpartum depression, bipolar depression, schizophrenia depression, and many other things, but it means that it includes various complications.
It's not just depression, it's a depressive state among various illnesses.
It's not that you want to die because you have depression, but it's common for people to want to die and consider suicide among various illnesses.
When this happens, it's important to basically rest, not think about it, and follow the people around you.
When you want to die, you're often not making sound decisions.
It's rare to make a sound decision to die.
It's basically defined as something that doesn't exist in psychiatry, at least.
There may be exceptions, but they're rare.
Basically, it's often a symptom of the illness, so if you rest properly and get treatment, ...
