Mmmmmm banana 🍌

Hey man, Im Croatian and CROTeam started in my home town.

Just wanted to let you know that "Krwawitze" is actually a skewed spelling of the word "Krvavice" which is plural for Blood Sausage here in Croatia. Its a dish with pig intestine, spices, rice and blood that can be baked, cooked or fried.

And "Pechina" actually means cave in Croatian. Pečina.

Also, you probably havent noticed this, but many of the random audio dialogue in SS2 are actually Croatian sentences pitched down. Like the biomecha tank demon guy yelling "Gde mi je sad batina" frequently when attacking, which literally means "Where is my stick" and lots of other audio that I cant remember of the top of my head. But SS2 is filled with Croatian audio

41:05 Bro... you just predicted Serious Sam Shatterverse hahahahaha

I loved the part where Sam said "Its seriousing time" and serious sammed all over mental

I was absolutely convinced BFE stood for Battle for Earth. But now I keep trying to look it up and I feel like a lunatic

I enjoy the "netricsa corrups Sam's mind" idea, though I always had a different explanation for the gradual increase in wackiness, it being simply proximity to Mental. It doesn't really work as a good explanation if you start poking holes in it, but I liked thinking of Mental as a reality warping entity, and the closer you are the more "mental" everything becomes.

your production value and editing has gotten better over time, and this video definitely shows. A nice trip down memory lane for sure, well done mate.

Couple notes to add:

- the Seriously! forum, oh man. That's where I met a lot of community members, some of whom I still stay in touch with today. Feels like a much different time period now that everything is relegated to discord servers.
- Serious Engine 1 actually got a fair amount of third-party games, but many barely have footage or documentation, so a lot of said titles are obscure. It being used for an MMO even was quite fascinating. Atlascian has a list of them all, but I might let him answer that one hahaha.
- the Kamikaze scream was originally said to have been created by Roman Ribaric, Croteam's CEO. However, while CT still claims this to this day, as one of your commenters pointed out, this actually seems to be a snippet cut from a stock scream effect set to loop. Which is not uncommon for many old games, multiple enemies like Kleers, Marsh Hoppers, and Reptiloids all use stock sound effects too. Even the Harpies from modern Sam games are using stock sounds. Not that this is a mark against the series, but it does show how iconic sounds can be given certain contexts (like how classic DOOM's door opening sounds are called "DOOM Door sounds" when in reality it's just a stock sound)
- Old Man Murray is pretty much responsible for putting Sam on the map. While CT did eventually get GOD as their publisher, OMM shone a light on their public test demo they put out on the internet, that effectively had a ripple effect that brought Sam into the public view. Quite remarkable what a bit of word of mouth could do back in the day!
- Alen Ladavac did work on Google Stadia for a time, but since Stadia went under, last I checked, he's working on Roblox, of all things.
- the SS4 April Fool's gag has some interesting history. It's a recreation of the Desert Temple deathmatch level from TFE, which was meant to be used for SS4's DM mode. But, SS4 never ended up getting official deathmatch support, so it was cut. That said, a community mod called "Versus Restored" exists, though I don't think anyone's made a Desert Temple addition to it.
- Clear Blue Sky isn't strictly tied to SS3's fifth stage. It's moreso the fact that the original release of SS3 uses this atmosphere for most of its stages, from level 3 to level 8 (and technically level 10, though it's slightly different). This, alongside "dynamic skyboxes" became something of a forced meme in parts of the community, as the lack of aesthetic variation felt repetitive compared to the levels from SS1/SS2.
- the Serious Sam 4 preorder crossbow is a joke, but a photoscanned model of it does exist in the game, you can find it on a table inside the Princess castle side-mission from In Carcassonne. Though it is difficult to see given how dark the interior is.
- Sam is real, though some call him John Dick.

1:43:50 get me a link to this, I might check this game out haha

Personally I think Croteam should use the general plotline of Serious Sam 2 as a jumping off point for him to run around the galaxy for SS5.

Basically treat it as their "Devil May Cry 2" where Sam treats it (SS2) as just one of his weeks.

"Serious Sam 2 is considered to be the series' worst entry"
This triggers my autism

Serious sam 2 is underrated

Godspeed you doing a near 2 hour video delving deep into the absurdity that is Serious Sam content. I'm not much of a fan when it comes to iceberg videos as majority of ones I come across mostly have people who have no idea what they're talking about or brush off topics without fully explainingthem, but I'll stick around to see how this goes. Time to get my fact checker ready.

I feel like "clear blue skybox" is actually realistic for a hot country such as Egypt. Even where I live, which is Europe, every summer we have at least 3-4 days of said clear blue sky. I would imagine in a mostly desert area it would be a much more common occurence.

1:01:46 The Kamikaze scream is just a stock sound like most of what you hear in the games. Hell, I even heard it in it's entirety on a Robot Chicken sketch. I'll edit what it was if I can find it again, all I remember is some dude gets hit in the crotch, which will definitely narrow it down.

It's called "Bob Barker's New Gig"

Hi. Glad my iceberg got its own video. Kudos to the author for the work done, but yeah, there are things that need to be fixed. I'll update this comment if possible.

• Sam is Mental Theory — the theory comes from Croteam's words that we've already seen Mental in all the Serious Sam games. And also — Sam is definitely not a hybrid of a Sirian and a human. One of the studio's current writers, Jonas Kyratzes, is inclined to think that Sam is just a badass man and nothing more.

• Box Art Mistakes — the original TFE cover also has mistakes (flying kleers, too low major biomechanoid). Someone should do a similar analysis of this art.

• Serious Sam Backstory — some retcons should be taken into. For example, Sam in the current story  was not chosen as a candidate to be sent to the past. And Timelock is a relic of an older race, maybe even the Mental race, while the Sirians simply transported it to Earth.

• Serious Sam References in Talos Principle - this is not so much a comment as an addition. There are many more such references. In Talos 2 you can find an arcade machine with Serious Sam and a GameBoy console, as well as cardboard figures of Kamikaze in the desert and various attributes of characters from Serious Sam 4 (Kenny's shoe, Carter's cap)

• Hero wasn't composed by Undercode — yes, it wasn't. The track was performed and written personally by Damjan Mravunac himself, which he has said more than once.

• T.E.O.R. - According to some information, the game was supposed to be called The End of Reason. I heard that this was revealed by one of the former Croteam employees.

• Serious Sam created in Alen's dream - this is about a joke that Croteam used to spread. The idea is that Alen and someone else from the studio were tired and fell asleep, and in their dream a man similar to Sam appeared to them like a vision, who insisted that their game be called Serious Sam.

• Seriously Warped Deathmatch - weapons from the mod is not cut. It was created exclusively for the mod itself by the development team and was never planned for Serious Sam.

My SS2 theory is that it's a hyperspace dream Sam is having while aboard the SSS Centerprice on his way to Sirius. TSE has to be real because its events are referenced in SS4, a prequel. They found weird paradoxes starting to happen, like they found the SSS Centerprice wreckage in Sierra de Chiapas, but they also found the intact Centerprice parked in orbit around Titan in 2063. What happened is that Sam in ancient times altered the timeline. This brings with it a chilling realization: Sam will fail. Because if the wreckage is found, meaning Sam's actions have repercussions on "the present" in SS4, shouldn't Sam also have killed Mental, saving the world from invasion? All that still happened.

Here's another little fun fact of my own to contribute and a small correction: Before the full release of Tormental, the character you talk to in the vault where you unlock new items wasn't actually Mental, but rather a new one simply called the Gatekeeper. He was one of Mental's acolytes, placed into his mind to protect Mental's most important secrets and ideas. During the development of the final update, it was decided that a game revolving around Mental should feature him more, thus the Gatekeeper was changed into being an aspect of Mental himself.

As for the small but notable correction on the plot, Sam isn't actually dead in Tormental. What the Mentalopticon at the start of the game did is make a copy of Sam's consciousness and inserted it into Mental. The real Sam was still active and likely walked away from the mission thinking it was a failure, unaware that a copy of him is now in Mental's mind. This is what Mental talks about after the final boss fight, as Mind-Sam has just allowed the real Sam to enter the Time-Lock while he himself remains stuck inside Mental.

On that note, the plot point that Tormental takes place at the same time as Serious Sam 3 was meant to be an endgame twist, revealed when you unlock the door to the final boss. While writing the dialogue between Sam and Mental, it was decided that this should be revealed much earlier to give some more plot incentive for the players. Personally, I voted against this decision, partially because it was a great twist, but mostly because it is never mentioned again until the end anyway and the logic behind the story's plot now makes less sense. The finale of the game initially revolved around buying the real Sam on Earth enough time to make it to the Time-Lock by delaying Mental from throwing the Moon. Now, Mental has already launched the Moon at Earth and giving him the mother of all headaches somehow slows down the Moon's descent despite the laws of physics doing it for him. There were a lot of discussions on this topic and how Mental himself should be characterized, which were never fully resolved and thus led into a rather confused narrative.

Could you do a video explaining the story of serious Sam?

Dunes was my favorite serious sam theme when I was a kid, and now it's cathedral suite... What a thing, I didn't notice they being even similar, didn't pay good enough atention

Leaving the comment to simply keep positive comment and share love.
I still remember the Dark Souls memes in that one video edit montage.
Much love, unkindled one.

dude I'm so upset that nothing came ohr of the serious sam 2 remaster/remake thing
