I just LOVE that ending C is only available in New game+. It fits so wel with the whole time travel/time loop theme. It's so simple yet genius at the same time...
So when the pathfinder touches his own body... he does not transfer his mind into it. Both bodies are actually him, so the bodies merge. Its like in Time Cop, if you have ever seen that! The idea is that if you met your future/past self, you would either both be destroyed, or become one being (merge).
1) (PATHFINDER) The body you carry; Who met Weronika, fell in love, disabled the collectives machines, and then shut himself down to stop the collective coming after him 2) (WARDEN) The version of the Pathfinder called the "Warden"... is the version you meet, who turns out to have created you. You Then fight him, then spare. Causing a Time Loop of the Warden; creating you --> fighting you --> being spared by you --> losing his memory ---> and back to creating you and repeat. While he is the same being, he exists in his own little loop.
So when the Warden touches the pathfinder, the same matter touches the same matter, and becomes one. He basically Temporally merges with his other timeline self.
This means that the Warden exists in his own little loop, EFFECT before CAUSE. As at no point does anyone restore the Pathfinder's shut down body to allow him to become the Warden, all that happens is the Warden touches his Pathfinder body and merges with it, fights you, loses, is spared, and goes back in time and loses his memory and starts the process of creating you again. There is a missing "link" between the Pathfinder shutting himself down, and becoming the Warden... this never happens. The EFFECT of the Warden coming into existence, misses the CAUSE of the Pathfinder being "turned back on".
The game is all about how EFFECT comes before CAUSE, where time travel is involved
Theory: The collective isn't really a saving grace. It is the amalgamation of all people that was created by the disease. It's just that this amalgamation is still hungry, hence uses human mind's it has consumed to create time travel to bring people from the past to consume. It is congruent with the fact that the Collective wants the 'essences' of people, similar to how the disease operated. Ironically, it is named the Collective
Ending A and B are also the start of the infection, in one she's dragged back to the steelworks with the warden, her infected body is most likely what kicks everything off. In the second they probably try to hide her at the steelworks to try and get help from their old friends but the infection still takes root. And the cycle continues.
The infection is partially her mind and partly the use of time travel without protection, she's alone and confused only half understanding what she's caught up in with two strange entities pulling her in different directions one of which claims it loves her the other that says it is her, which has a big impact on how the infection operates, it's her want for comfort, answers and to feel whole which somehow interacts with her mutation which becomes the virus through her body being altered when going through time without a dive suit. Two of her together and awakening in the pod however may negate that some as it's still technically 'her'.
Games a hidden gem. Really enjoyed it from the 80’s theme to the time traveling sci fi elements and even combat although that got frustrating at times.
I came here to see if I missed anything, but indeed they did just leave out explanations for quite a lot. I really really really liked what this game did, it was very well executed in not only it's art direction, but also atmosphere and story it wanted to tell. I get nervous when they introduce time travel in things, but I eagerly await the next part of this story. Awesome video man, your editing style was very enjoyable to watch! But then again, such is your calling.
After having played the game multiple times, I watch videos like this to further immerse myself in the story while I am at work and unable to play.
Thank you for making an effort to pronounce the names correctly, as I have heard one guy on YouTube call Doctor Weronika (Veronica) as "Ruwonka," so I really appreciate that you pronounce their names better.
the cross on the back of the suit is the same a one from the church, thats the collective, and the change has come from time traveling - travelers are immune in their suits, and they are just 3D printed human flesh, and when you finish the game, no matter the ending, Weronika travels through time, so the flesh , DNA is /changed/ and it triggers the illness .... thats my take.
I thought that I was the only one that had to beat the second boss in the game, the one in the steelworks, like 5 times since the cutscenes after kept bugging and crashing my game.
