For all the people asking why Floch is in the thumbnail, dude idk I just thought it'd be funny, I barely even watched AOT #fakeanimefan (not really I'm just really bad at finishing anime so I never finished AOT, I'm sure it's great□)
Bro i'm a nurse who works with dementia patients and when I tell you that they DO look at you like this 07:32, I mean it. The great thing about this movie is that some of the absolutely batshit stuff that Deborah does is stuff people with dementia do (setting the kitchen on fire, the night wandering, the whole naked old lady thing, etc). It's a hard movie to watch if you have any personal history with dementia
Also if you're looking for a good found footage horror movie, I suggest The Bay - my ass is never going into a lake again
9:31 Elderly people’s skin actually comes off really easily. You have to be careful if you catch them when they fall not to grab their arms, because you can potentially rip the skin right off. I know this because I worked in an assisted memory care facility I’m not just out here ripping skin off of old people lol
This is one of my fave underrated horror flicks. Deborah's actress KILLED being a creepy/ill/possessed old woman. That part where her mouth is all split open as she's full-on eating that little girl will always be stuck in my head. Awesome movie
I worked at a nursing home in the kitchen once. We had this resident in a wheelchair with diabetes who wheeled up to my windows. They asked what was for desert and I told them it was ice cream sandwhiches. They asked for four or five of them. I told them that I would have to make sure all the residents got one before I could hand out anymore (I did not know they had diabetes yet).
The resident looked to the left, then the right, then scorched up real close and said, "Yuh k.ow, the doctor said my diabetes is getting better and I only need on shot a month now."
Being genuinely happy I told them that was great to hear and I was happy for them. This elderly person...looked me dead in the eye and goes, "So can I have 4 ice cream sandwhiches?" Bruh.
As a nurse, this movie was a great way to express the pain and horrors of the disease. Which it’s a terrible disease, I do not wish it on anyone. But I would’ve sent Deborah to the ER more times than comfortable.
5:25 I will defend Sarah on this one, from experience. So when someone with alzheimer's or dementia is having an episode, you need to stay as calm as possible when comforting them because if you are freaking out, they're going to freak out. So just in case anyone is ever put in a situation such as that always remember to stay calm and keep your voice low while reassuring them. Don't try to argue with them or directly physically intervene unless you absolutely have to. In fact, if you can give them space, that's exactly what you want to do. No touching, basically. They often wont be able to articulate what the issue is past stage 4 or 5, so you need to be attentive to surroundings to be able to see if you can tell if something has changed in order to pin point the problem. Best solution if you do need to get them to move or do something, is to try to calmly guide them away from the stressful situation. You can redirect their attention to a calming interest of theirs, maybe outside, or even to another room.
I'm only saying any of this because it's something that not many people understand very well, and you never know when you might be in that kind of situation, even if it's not with someone you know. So you always gotta make sure you know what to look out for to keep yourself and others safe. Love your videos as always, man!! (Also, totally gotta recommend Event Horizon. It's a damn shame what happened to all the cut footage, but it's still a fun, if not gorey, time.)
24:56 I've always thought that part is the most TERRIFYING thing I've ever seen in a horror movie. Apparently it's a puppetry rig/animatronic made by Vincent Guastin and William Basso Jr., and they're absolute master craftsmen because holy SHIT it looks so damn REAL.
There's a found footage movie called Savageland. Instead of video style FF, the story unfolds over a series of pictures that were taken on the night of a mass killing that isn't exactly what it seems. I only saw it once, but I remember LOVING it. Really clever take on the found footage subgenre
