20 Minute Promo

In 2010, WWE had the hottest angle in wrestling. Seven rookies united under one banner, invaded Monday Night Raw, destroyed the ring, and made the entire company feel unsafe.

The Nexus wasn't just another faction. They were supposed to be the future.

Then SummerSlam happened.

This is the story of how John Cena defeated The Nexus, why so many fans believe that decision changed the careers of Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, David Otunga, Darren Young, Michael Tarver and Skip Sheffield forever, and how one night became one of the most controversial booking decisions in WWE history.

The one bright side of the nexus failure is that WWE seemed to learn what went wrong and treated the Shield the way the Nexus should have been.

And the night Cena pulled a Hogan move.

"That doesn't work for Me, brother."

to this day i still think the failure of the nexus is the reason why the shield was booked so strong and never buried

SummerSlam 2010 can be remembered as the one night(at least the one we know 😂), that Cena used the "That doesn't work for me brother"

If WWE was a comic book, then Cena is like Spider-Man and The Nexus was the Sinister 6 (plus one). Outnumbered by people who could logically overpower you all at once, yet, by the power of plot armor, he somehow wins.

I wonder how differently Daniel Bryan’s wwe run would’ve been if he didn’t get fired and taken out of the nexus

It's good that The Shield didn't suffer the same fate as The Nexus. After all, many people know that John Cena wanted to defeat them in 2013 before WrestleMania 29, but it's good that Dean Ambrose went to Vince McMahon and convinced him to let his team win against John Cena and his teammates!

I was a kid back then, and I actually loved seeing Cena beat Nexus at SummerSlam. When he was fired, I felt sad, but I also loved the fact that he stayed fair. After he was fired, watching him beat up the Nexus members one by one was a highlight for me. Then, when he finally defeated Wade Barrett at TLC, it felt like the end of an old chapter. I hated Nexus, so I was thrilled that we were moving into a new chapter, with Cena going after the WWE Championship again.

Looking back now, it feels so weird and different. I didn't hate it at the time, and even now I agree with you, but there's still a part of me that's nostalgic for 2010 and doesn't dislike what happened.

Wade Barrett could have been a legitimate star and a top heel. As much of a fan I am of Cena, he should have given Wade the win. Wade had the tools to be a great World Champion. It's a shame his career never recovered.

How many of them (nexus) went on to do anything?

I'm not saying that it's okay booking decisions but seriously outside of wade who did anything anywhere after this? I'm asking genuinely.

Honestly the Nexus storyline is what got me back into wrestling . It was a good run I just feel like none of those guys could carry solo except Barret and Wyatt(edit: forgot Daniel Bryan)

@umaangh 3 months ago

The guys who were really good from the Nexus still went on to have good careers outright claiming Cena killed their careers is stupid

@jeremyadrian233 2 months ago

Problem with this theory is that they were built to be the "monster heel", impossible to beat, into the one that the superhero beats. Classic Hogan.

watching you daily has now become an addiction, keep up the good work.

Edge and Jericho even pointed out that this will fail massively. After the match John realized and admitted that they were right. Too bad it was too late😭😭😭
