Jeez I didn't realise how accurate this episode is. The public sector is haemorrhaging dollars because they got rid of all the Bert's.

The entire world regrets losing Bert 😢 (and his wife’s cake) I need a cup of tea.

Depressing…because it’s so true.

"to get him a cup of tea" amazing 😂

Painfully accurate representation of real life…

The sandwich saga alone killed me. This poor dude just wants a sandwich and he can't get one.

The rest of it was sad too, like watching a train crash in slow-motion. But the sandwich thing broke me.

2 billion dollar project, budgeted for 7 mil, meanwhile they axe the second start and the lights turn off every 10 seconds to "save money"... Sounds like the Australian government...

Every industry is losing Berts. And if anybody caught it, he actually kept up. the Chinese pre-fab concrete is a new tech that defiantly wasn't the mainstay 40+ years ago in public works, especially not here in the UK or I imagine much in Aussie land. The problem with old boys that are stuck in the past is they look at a brick and think £1 a brick is expensive, that's cheap for modern builds as new bricks go. But if an old boy kept up with the prices and tech with that 40 years of experience they should be there just to remind people it can be done sensibly.

Be a Bert, should be the slogan for all government departments. We used to do great things

This hurt my soul.

4:01 Bert truly is a superhero. I mean, he doesn't even need his hands to put on his eyeglasses.

What a brilliant show! This is a 100% accurate depiction of the reality here in the UK, particularly in anything to do with Government and pubic services. If anything, we are way worse than Australia.

People like Bert are the types that can actually do everything, but their common sense mindset is killed when govt bureaucracy and excessive costs get baked into the system..

Then these ex-Bert folks see ths system for what it is and join consultancies and get paid the big bucks instead of doing things the straightforward way

Privatization is always a massive mistakes and so a PPP.
Private companies exist solely to maximize profits. They do not exist to minimize costs or maximize quality, if those things do occur it is coincidental. Having a government with the capabilities to do all its own work internally keeps costs down, allows things to move faster, and aligns the project with what the government actually wants

@markluni4234 6 months ago

In real life, those two would be getting some "consulting" fees.

@kevindegroot846 3 months ago

As an engineer, this is kind of depressing. You want your institutional knowledge held in governments, not consultants to sell back to you at 300 bucks an hour

This is a Greek tragedy

Getting the job done, from her mouth everytime means not getting the job done! 😂

My father in law was an Engineer with NSW Rail and then Sydney Water, 1950s to 1980s. Rose to a senior position but by the end, the managers were people with MBAs and no clue about Engineering. That's when all technical skills were outsourced to the private sector ..to "save money".😢
