In this video, I'm taking a look at Marshmallow (2025), released on Blu-ray by Toy Robot Video.

For much of its first half, this feels like a fairly familiar summer camp horror movie. We follow a group of kids, spend time around the camp and wait for that inevitable campfire story to become horribly real.

And honestly? It's a little boring.

Then Marshmallow takes a HUGE turn into something much stranger and considerably more interesting.

The problem is that it then seems determined to explain absolutely everything.

An unusual, ambitious little genre movie that I ultimately enjoyed, even if it doesn't quite stick the landing.

🎬 ABOUT THE FILM

12-year-old Morgan arrives at a secluded summer camp where a frightening campfire story about a mysterious figure in the woods appears to become real. But Marshmallow isn't quite the summer camp slasher it initially appears to be. Director Daniel DelPurgatorio takes the familiar setup somewhere increasingly strange, mixing horror, childhood fears and science fiction into something I definitely wasn't expecting.

Have you seen Marshmallow?

Did the big reveal work for you?

And did you think the movie explained far too much once it finally showed its hand?

I really liked where this eventually went, I just wish it had trusted the audience a little more and landed that final stretch more effectively.
