95% of TTPD is about Matty Healy and it's about time people accept that. She's made it so obvious. There are so many clear references to him and The 1975 not just in the lyrics but also in the music video for Fortnight, the artwork, the live performances, in literally everything about that whole era
When she says it wasnt sexy once it wasnt forbidden, she is meaning matty wanted her when she was with joe or someone else and then when they got together he didnt want her anymore. You can here it in her voice when she sings it.
imgonnagetyouback is definitely about Matty, it epitomizes their situation. It acknowledges what he did and how she loves and hates him. I think she still wants him. She sang so many surprise/mashup songs for/about Matty. It was also Matty's idea for Taylor to do an acoustic album, so she did two. There are more about Matty on Reputations, like Are you ready for it, like jailor is Joe etc. End Game makes so much sense if it's about Joe. I know he is as bland as can be. What songs are about Joe, Delicate directly mentions his blue eyes. Though the video is like The 1975's
So two cheaters met, delulu about forbidden love, got tgt and ended faster than twelve years olds' date, then went "Great, now I might as well milk the narrative and profit from it"
i'm glad that she tried dating MH (AND FAILED!), otherwise she couldn't have a healthy relationship when she always had him in her mind. I bet there would be people claiming there are songs in Showgirl written about HM as if he's still there in her mind while it's not the case. I'm hoping this is over now.
Why did Taylor play “Young hearts” the song about domestic abuse, on loop at her wedding? Even the singer of that song publicly stated she was worried. Source:MakeItSnazzy channel
A love that didn't happen or like an encounter I might say that didn't push through or touch will always fuel imagination. This is why Taylor is so hung up with Matty. He probably did things that she wanted to see in her life, in which she was in the most vulnerable phase of the relationship, where it gets bored and comfortable. This is probably a usual problem when you write songs, poems or novels and you push to have ideas to create one instead of letting it flow naturally to you. It will eventually fire back at ya in the end if that's Taylor's practice. That creates imbalance between her reality and imagination, causing issues with her life. She keeps having unrealistic men qualities or so, keep finding everything that is wrong with them or be obsessive. And the saddest part is, she lets go of Joe Alwyn and betray someone who loves her. She took Joe for granted by keep thinking about Matty. Joe might already have felt it and reason being he wasn't able to push through the wedding. They are probably on and off. If you let yourself think about a past love that is definitely going to eat you up like what she did with Joe. I think she has a lot of regrets back then before realizing she has Travis loving her now despite her past or stories to tell, feelings to process. She wants to be renewed or end the Era that she is too naive and cruel. This time with Joe must have hurt very much after realizing everything in the end with Matty. I think it is not the right time to even have a wedding with Travis.
'tis the damn season is about Jeff Lang. She mentions staying at her parents house, and the school they used to go to with the line "thе school that used to be ours". Also "messy as the mud on your truck tires" is 100% not about Matty
I thought it was a great video. I never listened to any of Taylor Swift’s full album. But they do play a lot of her hits at my job and I love them all! I did listen to this new showgirl album and I can see why people were upset that it wasn’t so deep. But I think it’s cute if she really is that in love with Travis and hopefully the Matty thing is over. I think she imagined life with him would be so fun and exciting with him being a bad boy but maybe she realized that it would be a lot of work to deal with someone who drinks a lot and does drugs and maybe speaks his mind too much. They say the things that attract you to somebody at first end up becoming the things that you hate about them later. That’s why opposites attract because they have something that you wish you had in you but overtime it just doesn’t fit.
I believe Taylor was torn by the two men, Joe and Matty. Joe offered sanctuary and stability and peace, which right after the snake issue she was in need of. She could hide from the world that turned against her but, still write and record music. Matty offered her excitement, rebellion and mad romance. That forbidden love with a clear bad boy. Taylor needed more than what Joe offered. She needed socialization and fun and to experience life to keep her creative juices going. Neither offered her a balance of the two worlds. Peace and quiet when she needed to wind down and reflect. Excitement and fun to be young and experience life. But, both men required alot of help and understanding from Taylor. Both had serious issues that were beyond her ability (or any average person) to manage. Joe was depressive and it seems was not getting therapy or medication to manage those moods. The average person cannot manage a person like that on their own. Depression runs in my family and I am one and I have been on a good medication for years (and had some therapy years ago to overcome my negative image of myself). My husband, as supportive and sweet as he is, would not be able to deal with me without my being pro active and managing my own condition myself. Matty had a real drug problem. He also smoked - which Taylor deplores. A person with addictions, including drinking, which Matty seems to have some issues with, is impossible for the average person to deal with and manage. And Matty's drug issues leads him to extreme irresponsibility. He also seems unable to deal with difficult issues and vanishes - i.e. ghosting - when the situations get hot. Travis, aside from being so deeply in love with Taylor, is also supportive, open minded and willing to change things for her. They seem to work on issue together rather then retreat (which both men did in their own way) and faces problems head on. He is humble and clear eyed. He had seen problems with some of Taylor's friendships - i.e. Blake - before the fall out came. He also sees the true friends like Selena. He watches out for Taylor. He is her protector and helper. He has restored her self esteem. He also offers both peace and quiet when she needs to hunker down and fun and laughs and good times. He is social and has a charismatic personality. He is also extremely good looking which fulfills her wish for a best friend that is hot.
