Tipp City firefighter/paramedic Alex Hules testifies about responding to Caleb and Ashley Flynn’s home in the early morning hours after receiving a report of a woman who had been shot.
Hules says emergency crews arrived approximately four minutes after receiving the call. He entered the residence with a Tipp City police officer and went to the master bedroom.

• Ashley Flynn was found lying on her left side in bed
• Hules described her position as appearing similar to a sleeping position
• A shell casing was observed on the bedroom floor
• A towel was covering Ashley’s head
• Hules found no breathing, movement or pulse
• Resuscitation was not attempted under the applicable non-initiation-of-care protocol
• His assessment ended at approximately 2:42 a.m.
• Hules testified that Ashley’s body was still warm
• He said he did not believe she had been there for hours
• Caleb Flynn asked him about Ashley’s condition after he left the bedroom
• Hules told Flynn that Ashley was dead and described Flynn as visibly upset
During cross-examination, the defense questioned Hules about his description of the incident as “fresh.”
Hules clarified that paramedics do not determine a biological time of death unless they are present when the death occurs.
