40k has been simplified in all the wrong ways and over complicated in all the wrong ways.

GW used to be a game company and then a model company.
Now they're a money company.

The ratio between fun and work is well, WELL out of wack. Not even touching upon the cost and being trapped in a subscription.

"Whats wrong with 11th edition." It has no soul

"You score 17 points if your [ADEPTUS ASTARTES] unit is wearing red velvet pants, but only if your opponent has a walrus mustache." That's what some of the scoring conditions feel like to me.

@bovius1536 1 month ago

I hate scoring now. I started in 5th and its become too cumbersome. I can't remember all the new stuff.

I feel like even at a casual level things are getting more and more competitive. There is always the ‘fear of missing out’ with your army where you need to buy into the current hot thing, which will be nerfed into the dirt rather than improving the rest of your army. Its all too exhausting

Lmao it seems you recorded this before T5 S6 marines, you were right on the money!

gw greed is a part of a hobby for a long time now but now it is obvious as never before

I did not really enjoy 10th so I played more one page rules. I was interested in playing 11th. After one game and with the figuring out missions based on disposition and all the set up and scoring shinnanigans I’m not gonna bother and I’m going back to Opr. How I spend my time is important and I don’t get a ton of it, so the pointless complexity and the mental load needed for 40K is just not worth it.

I realize this game demands way too much for my little hobby time. I'm not able to get reps in or do the homework of keeping up and that feels terrible for how much I already invested in painting and collecting.

I have been struggling SO HARD with point #1! My game group sits there measuring out these layouts, sometimes for half an hour... and it's so boring to look at. No story, no sense. Cities don't freaking look like that. It's better than 10th for sure, but daaaamn. I'm 56, I've been playing since Rogue Trader, and sadly, I can't keep up anymore. I only have 5 hours a month to play, and I don't have the time to listen to podcasts to learn all the "tricks" that are being figured out. So whenever I do get to play, I'm still rusty on the rules, and then my opponent knows 15 little tricks that just take me right out of the game.

I’ve sold off 6 armies in the last week and a half, I’m over it. I’m keeping two on the shelf and shifting to different games. I’m tired of the corporate treadmill bullsh*t GW has turned into. It’s just been degrading over the last decade and I’m burnt out. I love the universe, the lore, the books, the models but I hate the company and what they’ve turned the game into

Back in the dark ages of 40k (pre 2005) This was common. A new codex comes out and beats everyone else to a pulp. The rest would have to wait for their codex to be updated, with some waiting years for an update. So nothing has changed. In fact I think updates roll out quicker now.

In an interview with Wesley st hines, winner at WTC teams, he asked if his sweden opponent if he had a gotcha for a interaction, ignored him, and then did the gotcha. This is the highest level of play and even they dont even know all the army's rules. I just play 4th edition in my garage im good

Looks like I chose one hell of a time to get into tabletop…lol

Casual games are too long. I agree. Set up and put away time is also lengthy.

@andrewtaylor2525 1 month ago

I have to admit the run up to 11th wasnt even a fraction of what the run up to 10th was

Switched over to Onepagerules a couple years ago, armies are balanced based on their points calculator system, games are quick to setup and play, and the list builder is FREE. I do miss the crunch of 40k to a degree, but OPR is leagues ahead for playing an actually fun game without a headache. I get my crunch from other game systems (like Necromunda!) but OPR allows me to have fun with all my 40k armies without having to relearn the game every month. The advanced rules allow you to make the game as complex as you want depending on the people you play with. Highly recommend.

If anyone thinks 40k is okay, I dare them to tell the opponent all of their stats, weapon profiles, strats, enhancements, unit abilities, AND army and disposition abilities every game.
