Pearl ran into a Polish couple and decided to have lunch with them. By the end of the meal, she was fluent in Polish, but still had to work on her accent.

I love how people's point of view change when you speak their mother's tongue, they stop judging you instantly and start recalculating how you are a part of their reality. I am a 6.4 black man with long dreads who's been traveling the world as a performer for decades. I have seen people filled with fear when they first see me, then I'd say something in their language and instantly turn that fear into curiosity. If I could have a super power, it would be to communicate in every language. We are ONE

I see these kids speaking SUCH good English, even if it is just that small section, and it just makes me SO ANGRY that the American educational system only has you start learning a language in middle school already at age 12-13... and even THEN it's so limited.
When I have kids, they are 100% going to start learning a second language young

Im asian and speak English everyday at work no one seems surprised??? 😂😂

I started watching your content in 2020 as I became a teacher. Hearing you speak chinese fluently and talking about your struggles put the bug in me that I could learn another language. I started exploring language learning youtube thanks to you and made a very sudden decision to start learning chinese in December of 2024. I just recently got a job offer in china and I'm going to be taking it! I wanted to revisit your content and wanted to say, "Wow! Look how much this channel has grown!" I don't think I will become fluent in 4 languages like you, but Im okay with knowing two. To many good years, Pearl!

The kids are so genuine in their amazement. You always get the truth from kids, they either like you or they don't. Loved this and it's inspiring my 8 year old to learn foreign languages. Thank you 😊

It’s so sweet that the kids gave you gifts they made.

11:50 I got here, but I'm not that special.

0:18 "Which is better Japan or China?"

"Taiwan Numbah One!!"

@OrientalPearl, my son loves your channel. He has started to self study Japanese. He loves it, but he says it is more difficult when youre not exposed to the country and culture. Your fluency is on another level!

The kids with their notebooks are my favorite- I'm assuming  (probably incorrectly) that they are practicing their English and have found a goldmine in the blonde lady. My close second, however, is the girl in the store (Bust a Balloon shirt) who was so taken aback that her first comment was "Why are you using Chinese to talk?"

i studied japanese in high school. i now live in a small town in canada and last summer there was a group of japanese tourists stopping by my work. i busted out what little japanese i remembered; asking them how they were, welcoming them into my country, and telling them i studied in school. they were absolutely flabbergasted and asked to take a picture with me. best shift ever lol
i need to brush back up on it, and i’ve also been slowly learning spanish because there are a lot of mexican people living here

There isnt much wholesome content on YT these days, this is my go to

hiii, i’m Xia Mei well that’s my chinese name, i started learning Chinese because of your channel, and now i go to China Town atleast once a month, and people are always shocked of my Chinese. I can also speak korean and english thank u for inspiring me to learn Korean and Chinese. 🇨🇳🇰🇷

Wow, you're amazing! You're so fluent both in Japanese and Chinese. And, I don't know if you've been told this before, but this kind of videos is so motivating. Seeing you being so skilled in both languages, and seeing people's reactions, is so motivating. I've been learning Japanese for a month, more or less, but gosh, I can't wait for the day I'll be even as half as fluent. Keep up the good work. Loving your vids.

Nothing builds bridges like language. Beautiful!

That's impressive! My wife and I travelled in Europe, the USA, Australia etc, and we sometimes heard people speaking Swedish (her language), someimes quite personal or rude. We used to say "there's no private language".
Be careful, someone somewhere will understand you!
