The ending reveal was so amazing, the scene is pure comedy perfection. The way the dudes just keep fighting and all the conflicts collide is well done

the one thing I don't love about the movie is that the one who didn't commit the affair seems to be doing more of the changing, apologizing, and getting pooped on throughout the movie than the person who committed the affair.

I LOATHED the 'babysitter' storyline in this movie, namely that an underage girl will reward an even younger boy with her n*des as a sweet kind guesture (and she originally took those photos for the child's Dad)......like, there's 50 layers of not ok in that!!

Gosling's character was extremely well done in terms of framing Cal's glow up as less about 'learning tricks to manipulate women' and more about teaching Cal how to 'take pride and care in yourself first, so you can then take pride and care in how you treat others'.

The backyard party which quickly escalates into a fiasco is still one of the funniest things ever put to film. All of the plot threads come together perfectly, and it has great lines, such as "Don't call him daddy!", "Stay away from my daughter, I don't even know you!", and Jacob giggling at the cop's "Keep it in the family!"

Surprised they didn’t touch on the fact that Julianne Moore doesn’t really take accountability for her cheating. She justifies it and doesn’t really get to the point of self accountability.

I just have always loved that Emma and Ryan’s characters don’t end up having sex that night and fall in love anyway.

I like the 'bad boy' trope here because Emma Stone's character doesn't approach it as if she can fix him.

She goes to him because she wants the Bad part, not to change the bad part. The change happens naturally, not because its her goal.

I think one of the reasons that Jacob changing in this movie works so well is that it isn't just Hannah changing him. It is both his friendship with Cal as well as the relationship with Hannah that ends up changing him.

Jacob changes Cal for the better, and Cal changes Jacob for the better, and both end up in healthier relationships at the end as a result of that friendship.

And yes, having all 4 main leads being fantastic actors certainly helps everything, but I think it is the Jacob and Cal relationship that really drives the movie and makes it so good.

While I love this movie, the only thing that I would change would be Robbie's ending. He constantly harasses and embarrasses Jessica, with one of his lines even being "I'm not going to stop sending Jessica texts that make her feel uncomfortable." At the end, he basically gets rewarded with her racy photos. He does apologise to her, but he still got off too lightly, in my opinion.

Agreed, bad boys in media can be done well in ways that don't have suspicious implication.
My favorite example will always be (the too often misunderstood) Mr. Darcy. He wasn't a bad boy who met the right good girl to fix him. He was a flawed man who offended a woman he grew to care about, her refusal was a wake up call to how flawed he is, so he works to better himself to be better to others and never cause her pain again, regardless of whether or not she would forgive him.

7:24 - I can't believe you glossed over the part where she talks about having gone to see the new Twilight movie by herself and she - half crying - says "It was so bad". Cracks me up every time :')

I've always hated the "bad boy changes for the right woman" trope because it's almost never reflected in reality but I feel like it's a big part of why so many girls and women give shitty people a chance. They think it will be their experience, they assign positive traits to people who aren't actually displaying them. The number of my girl friends in high school who I had to talk and counsel through relationship struggles because they dated boys who had always been openly not good people was just way too high a number. But we're taught that we can fix boys and men, or worse that their behavior isn't bad in the first place and we should just adjust.

Idk it makes me sad lol
