Piece of My Heart has Janis' raw, belting vocals.  It's a banger.  ☮✌   ~ Julie

Ball and Chain at Monterey Pop Festival was her big debut and she blew everyone away.

Janis's version of "Summertime" is absolute fire..listen & burn...♥️🎶🔥

This is tame for Janis Joplin. You need to see her perform "Cry Baby", live.  She goes from 0 to 100 mph in intensity, in the first bar!

"Me & Bobby McGee" is my favorite song by Janis Joplin & she recorded it a few days before her death. It was written by the late Kris Kristofferson. Janis was a one of a kind singer with a unique voice. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs such as "Summertime", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over", "Mercedes Benz" etc.

Love this song. She was good friends with Kris Kristofferson who wrote the song. He didn't know she's recorded it until after she'd passed. and was gobsmacked by her version.

I usually avoid listerning to Janis, because every time, I cry.
Yep. Did it again.

This is one of Janis's softest, gentlest songs. Mercedes Benz is fun!

Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse have more in common than both having a unique voice. The struggle with life, leading to problems with drugs and alcohol and making them members of the „27 club“. And both leaving such a legacy despite their short lives.
I recommend „Piece of my heart“, „Cry baby“, „Summertime“, „Mercedes Benz“, just to name the most popular songs. ☺️

Live at Monteray singing Ball and Chain shows her going all out.    Backing band was rough but she was amazing.   And, her version of Summertime is lovely.

The Pearl Album was released after Janis had passed away. She never got a chance to see how much it would mean to us all. The song was written for her by Kris Kristofferson. She is sorely missed.

Highly recommend Piece Of My Heart. And she is phenomenal live. Deep rabbit hole.
Great reaction/analysis.
😊

Me and Bobby McGee was written by her fellow Texan Kris Kristofferson. I enjoy Kris' version a lot, but no one can sing it like Janis Joplin. And nobody will ever sing AND feel the music like she did. Every time I listen/watch her live performances on youtube, I mourn her loss. While the phrase "one of a kind" is thrown around a lot, The Pearl was truly one of a kind.

I am DELIGHTED that you've discovered Janis. I hope you'll check our more of her work. (Trust me. This is one of her softer, gentler works.)

This song was written by country, folk, rock singer songwriter and actor, Kris Kristofferson , who in my opinion has the male version of her voice.  I grew up in Austin, Texas and heard her at Threadgils and Armadillo Headquarters.  She put on a great show.  Kris also sang and performed around Austin quite frequently as a friend of Willie Nelson.  He and Jerry Jeff Walker were a few of my favorite performers of the time.

Texas legend! And, written by another Texas legend. ❤

I'm 49. Bobby Maggie has always made me cry in joy.
My father saw her in San Francisco at a bar. He described her as a sweat hog dancing on stage. She finally stepped up to the mic and looked scared . The crowd screamed obsinitis demanding a performance.
My father described a whaling sound low long then moving up and not stopping and back down.
Silence overcame the bar. Drinks and glasses stopped hitting her.
Calm he'd never experienced since.
He said she smiled, winked and the band started playing and she started singing.
He said the crowd Stayed silent the entire song with tears running down their faces. He said her dirty voice sounded like truth in every emotion no one can describe in words.
The second song started she began to sing the crowd roared and clapped celebrated.

She struggled with drug and alcohol abuse which lead to her short life.  Excerpts from Woodstock are a great source of live material.

✌️☮️ “Piece of my Heart” and “Summertime” - most definitely!
