When I look back at my childhood and teenage years I never had a health issue in terms of weight, but I always felt like I was too much and too big, which is easy when you are as tall as I am and tower above all of the other kids. But when I moved out at the age of 21 I stopped eating what my mom prepared and started to eat whatever I found, which was mostly junk food. All I knew was how to move a lot and eat whatever my mom made and that always worked for me and I never even thought about diets and losing weight and all the other shenanigans. But when I started working a full time job the movement stopped, and so did my mom's meals. Aaaaaand the weight started to creep up slowly. I moved countries at that stage and in Turkey dietitians are a big big thing. Everyone visits them, everyone praises them, and only they can help you achieve your health back. But that wasn't the same story for me. I visited one and I immediately loved her. And mind you this is my story and not what happens in general. She curated lists for me which had lots of protein, healthy fats, and some fiber in it but lacking carbs that I needed so much. But boy were those lists making me hungry. I didn't stop though because I was always so determined to achieve something I started. And continuing those lists I ofc lost weight and felt good. But the second I stopped going I felt lost. Because I went from my moms meals to my dietitians lists and not having any carbs on my plates kind of demonized them for me all together because I thought she knows how to do this and if she isn't giving me any carbs they must be bad for me. Stupid right? So I gained even more weight than I lost. Went to another dietitian and same story happened all over again. While it might works for others.. it didn't work for me and the only thing that happened was that my wallet was getting smaller but I didn't. It got so bad that I started to get serious health issues and was classified as pre-diabetic. And then I had enough. I wanted to learn what the foundation of health and nutrition is. And I read books, articles, watched videos, took courses. And I finally understood how macros and calories work and that there isn't anything bad and that I can eat anything I want and don't even need cheat days as long as I am creating delicious meals that have variety and a good mix of protein, carbs, healthy fats, and fiber. I not only felt better, but I also finally understood that being healthy doesn't mean that I have to be hungry all the time or stop eating bread and fruit. It's the opposite. And today I love to cook my own meals and make sure that I am well fed and healthy. If you feel the same way and feel confused about what to cook, then this video might give you some inspiration since I'm sharing my favorite meals I eat on repeat to be healthy and happy!
