Personal favorite "Lawyers, Guns and Money".  There was only one Warren Zevon.

“Lawyers, Guns and Money” next!

Warren had a taste for the macabre. Just on this LP he also had "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner" and "Werewolves Of London."  There's a story of Warren careening through his L.A. area mansion wearing a Donald Duck mask and firing off his Smith and Wesson revolver (which is pictured on the inside cover I believe.)
That's Linda Ronstadt on backing vocals. She did a great recording of Warren's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me."

The whole point of the song is the juxtaposition of the macabre lyrics and the happy musical presentation.

"Like a movie writer who chose to do music" . Now you need to check out "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner"

Love Warren Zevon, hell of a lyricist. Intense doesn't begin to describe him.

The sleeper song on this album is 'Accidentally Like a Martyr'.

The song is about how bad behaviour that is excused "he's just an excitable boy" will get worse not better. Love his song 'Keep me in your Heart' from his final album recorded as he was dying from mesothelioma. He said to David Letterman that knowing he was dying taught him to "enjoy every sandwich". Brilliant artist.

the story of a juvenile sociopath.

Linda Ronstadt & Jennifer Warnes singing backing vocals here.

Fantastic song. Dark lyrics behind a happy jingle kind of tune.

Love wild man Warren! Btw, that’s Linda Ronstadt on background vocals. I was part of his fan base and I found him through people like Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff and JD Souther ( all great artists in their own right). They all sing, play on or, in Browne!s case, produced this record. Warren is more than just a novelty guy. He wrote and performed some great songs. Two of my favorites on this album are Lawyers, Guns and Money and Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner. He had had some unique experiences in his life and man, what a storyteller.

"Nighttime in the switching yard", next Zevon tune please.  A funky grooving  rocker.

RIP, Warren...one of a kind.

I was crazy about Warren Zevon. I even went back and bought his first album after I found him. I saw him live in Orlando and it was a great show. I was so happy when Dave Letterman fell in love with him and had him on his show a lot. I moved to California to pursue my career as an actor. There was a DVD store that I liked to go to a lot on the west side of L.A.. One day I looked over into the next aisle and there was Warren Zevon. I blew my L.A. cool and walked around to him. I introduced myself and told him that I have been a huge fan of his ever since I first heard any of his music. I told him about seeing him live and how much his music meant to me. He broke into a big smile, stuck out his hand and said "Hi, I'm Warren Zevon!" We had a nice conversation and then I left him alone. It was less than 6 weeks later that he came on to David Letterman and announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer and would probably be dead within a year. I think he lived a little bit longer than the year. I like to think that I brought some joy and pride to him that day. His music was so unique and beautiful. You can't go wrong listening to any of his music.

guys, you have to listen to Lawyers, Guns & Money & Werewolves of London. Warren was amazing.

The Ballad of Roland the Headless Thompson gunner ought to be your next one.

Poor Poor Pitiful Me is pretty great. Zevon can make you laugh, and he can also rip your heart out. Totally unique writer.

This album is a classic. All bangers

That was an awesome comment about writing movies for music!
