The current theory for Doom 2005 is that they banked on widely distributing this movie in China, and there, the laws have certain limitations on showing ghosts/demons/etc in films, so that's why they went with virus monsters instead of hell monsters.

One must love it when strong army woman has ZERO visible muscles.

The movies that answered the question; "How do you fuck up Doom?"

Evil Dead/Army of Darkness should be the template right? But metal!

“Let’s make a [insert video game title] movie, but adapt zero of the source material. Only names and references matter!”

I remember watching Doom 2005 in theaters when I was 12 years old. My dad took me, same man who introduced me to the games when I was like 4 years old. I thought the movie was cool cause I was too young to understand how bad it was, it was just neat to see one of my favorite video games on the big screen, but even then I remembered thinking it was weird that it didn't at all follow the plot of the games and that they never went to hell or anything like that. Nowadays for some reason the only thing I really remember about the movie is that one monkey for some reason

No mention of Dexter Fletcher?

An Englishman doing a passable American accent.

We almost had the Baron of Hell since the plan was for The Rock to turn into him, but I believe they found it too expensive and it’s why they couldn’t do it and they changed it to the version we got. It’s a shame because the Baron would’ve been cool to see

14:14 yes this pov scene is the money shot which is the whole reason why this movie cost so much :’’)

wtf the lady scientist is a literal eugenicist

5:12 that stupid flashlight bit got me so good. lmfao

Dude, the doom slayer is hands down the greatest super hero that has ever existed, how they messed up these movies up is absurd to me. It was right fucking there! I’m fully convinced that the slayer could have been the next terminator.

To be fair, trying to explain religious with futuristic science stuff was ahead of its time in the DOOM series

I didn't even realize that there was a second "Doom" film.

I probably was better off living without that knowledge.

How hard is it to just make an adaptation of the first game? Like you obviously need more characterization in some form, but the overall plot of Doom Guy on Phobos, evil corpos open a portal to Hell, he kills demons, goes to Hell, closes portal, but it's too late and the demons have invaded Earth. There is enough there to make a pretty decent action-horror movie, but neither of these filmmakers seemed to grasp that.

Your better than the writers at Family Guy with these cut aways 😂

Doom was such a fun weird game 😂 I just remember monsters running and chomping me

When Zach Cregger's done with his Resident Evil flick maybe he'll make a decent DOOM movie. It's like, seemingly the easiest thing in the world to get right, yet NONE of these filmmakers got it.

30:20 The only thing I didn’t like was the cliffhanger ending. Everything before it wasn’t too bad for me.

22:06 Bordel, j'ai rien compris ce qu'elle a dit non plus, pourtant je suis une OG grenouille.

I have the suspicion the reason for the first Doom movie to drop the whole hell angle might be Event Horizont. Something along the lines of: "When we do this too, everyone will say we ripped off Event Horizont!". Possibly some guy in a suit and a tie. ;)

As for the second movie: It's an obvious direct to DVD movie with obvious direct to DVD production values. It's also not too close to the games. But I find one has to respect they at least tried to get a BIT closer (the main bad scientist es even Dr.Betrüger from Doom 3). And the action stuff is done halfways competent - compare it with the real horrible poop you get from many other direct to DVD releases (Asylum, anyone?). What I mean to say is: Given what it is - it's actually not all bad. When I'm not in the mood for "cheesy bad" I like this even more than the first one. And both are guilty pleasures of mine. I do like me some cinema trash - I watched all the MST3K. ;D
