Recently started my game dev journey and I canāt imagine actually desiring to churn out an entire game with a prompt. 99% of the enjoyment for me is the process of dreaming, planning, attempting, failing, trying again, succeeding, repeat. Itās a journey. And I know itāll be many years before my game is done. But I love that.
There's a hundreds of ai manga and comic dropping everyday, yet I can't see my self reading even a chapter of one of them, but I keep subscribed to Manga apps and whiting for my favorite authors to drop something, same with games I check steam everyday for new game , a game made by actual human with an intentional design, carefully crafted experience.
You make the key point - these generic games can be made in a much better/ more stable/expandable way using assets (bought or free). The 'shortcut' to avoid starting from scratch was already there.
Great video. I think the biggest limitation of current LLMs is their context window. They canāt even fit a small project (like the examples from the video) into their memory in its entirety, so they have to work with smaller, separate segments, where they naturally omit important references (which are essential across game systems), and then subsequently correct these gaps one by one at great cost, all while creating new gaps elsewhere. Thatās why these guys paid $5,000 in tokens for a game that literally no one would play even for free.
Also those people saying "If I wanted to have a game made by an AI I would just generate it myself" which apparently means they'd spend 4 GTA6 deluxe editions on one broken game with generic level design and characters that look more like placeholders.
Yes, I think the gap will only increase. Before AI slop, we already had all those asset-flip games, but how many of them actually found success? I canāt recall a single one.
I think it will be the same with AI tools. Theyāll help experienced developers make games faster and more efficiently, while others will just burn money and flood the market with games nobody wants.
