Welcome back to Log 8! In our last video we asked you to guess how long it took us to sail from Anambas back to Batam. We said 3 days max... Our GPS track said otherwise: 500 kilometers, 5 full days at sea, and we only arrived on Day 6. As beginner sailors, this was officially our toughest passage yet.

On Day 1, our power station stopped charging the house battery. It was a blown fuse, we had no spare, and we were 370 km from civilisation, so our engineer Captain had to improvise a fix at sea (please don't try this at home!). On Night 1, a squall hit with full sails up and the wind spiked to 22 knots, and we had to U-turn toward the nearest island just to get the sails down.

After that came headwinds pushing us far south, rolling seas that sent our batteries ice-skating across the floor, tankers in the shipping lanes, a maze of fish farms that don't show on AIS, and a rainstorm with zero visibility. Two pods of dolphins escorted us along the way, and a steaming pot of dumpling soup kept us going all the way to Nongsa Marina.
