I wouldn't want to buy from MLM, even if the product was perfectly fine, because I wouldn't want to support this exploitation with my money.

People want a simple exchange: money for a product. We don’t want clubs, loyalty programs, emails and texts, or beauty consultants!

Oh gosh, when Rodan + Fields changed their marketing model from MLM to affiliate marketing, the uproar amongst their marketers was LOUD. So much panic because they were losing their downlines.  The products were still available, but the profit changed.

A friend of mine sold Rodan + Fields. I got talked into buying a skincare set. Her upline representative was at the party I attended and really put the hard sell on me. She also didn’t really explain that I would be getting a subscription to this set that would come every 2 months. I should have read the fine print. The products had a very strong fragrance. I don’t usually have sensitive skin or mind fragrance, but it was very strong. I used the set first at night and was OK. When I applied the day cream with SPF the next day, my face started itching. It was mild at first but then became severe. By the time it was bad, I was away from home and couldn’t wash it off. I developed little red bumps all over my face and neck, and 2 days later my skin started peeling severely. I never used the products again, but I didn’t cancel quickly enough and got charged for a second set. My friend asked why I cancelled, and I told her about my reaction. She seemed very upset. Sadly she stopped returning my texts after that.

Oh my gosh, every person I've known that joined an MLM became insufferable to deal with. They were like instant apostles to their new religion of jewlery/skin care/candles/essential oils/etc etc.  The sunk cost of joining and staying in an MLM is a travesty, especially to those who are trying to get higher on the pyramid. The more debt they ran to get higher yet further away from the top, the more feverish their pitches became. MLM's are insidious.

They interviewed me for a job in finance at their corporate offices years ago. I was leery of them but needed a job and was willing to at least interview. I had heard they were moving from being in Nordstrom to being an MLM but I myself mentioned nothing about that during the interview. It was the interviewer who inserted a sort of disclaimer saying we have a retail side and then we have our independent seller program, which is much smaller. Kind of trying to do damage control before it was even mentioned. That tells me their HR people have already heard that a million times. ‘You’re an MLM, I’d never work for you.’

When I was around 14 in 2015, I had asked my mom if I could try proactive. She said heck no! Apparently it made her face peel and burn and she didn’t want me to risk it. Thanks mom

I have the permanent ick from Rodan and Fields being an MLM. We have so many more options now for effective skincare, I have no desire to give them my money after they preyed on hundreds of thousands of women.

They thought infomercials were icky but not MLM is wild lol.

I'm old enough to have actually used Proactive before they became an MLM. Stuff helped me with my acne better than any other product.

My husband was a database dev working on programming their compensation systems. He luckily left the company in 2014 but I remember how punitive their compensation plans were. If you missed a month of sales, your entire downline reverted to the person above you, regardless of how large your downline was. They would have corporate wide meetings where they would fly out their "top earners" to share just how "well" they were doing. Their toxic models were not limited to their consultants.

I know someone who sold r+f. She lost THOUSANDS! Her husband ended up divorcing her because she wouldn’t stop.
