Hey everyone. I just wanted to leave some thoughts here. First, after posting this, I saw old social media posts of Amaya’s with colorist/racist language which I do not endorse and would not have ignored. I’m seeing other reports that those might not be real, I truly do not know and it seems like a developing situation. I also think just generally in this video, I failed to call out the racist motivations behind attacks on cast members like Chelley, Olandria, Ace, and Clarke. It’s clear that this season has brought a lot of hurt not just towards members of this cast, but the communities they represent and the last thing I want is to contribute further to that. Cast members like Huda, while also a woman of color, were able to get away with abhorrent behavior meanwhile the slightest perceived wrongdoing of Chelley and Olandria led to mass cancellations - a pattern all too familiar for black women on this show and generally. I talked about this towards the end in the girls girl discourse section but I don’t think I did that nearly explicitly enough. And finally, I think I as a person am afraid of fueling negativity (and that is still the last thing I want) towards anyone with the platform I have which is why I generally kept the tone light hearted and didn’t delve into the more serious criticism of for example some of huda’s behavior towards the men she dated on this show. I do think there were multiple concerning instances during her time on the show and I stand by the hope that she will reflect and hold herself accountable. But of course so far that accountability is yet to be seen. I have no doubt that more information will come out each day that complicates feelings about certain islanders more and more. Thank you everyone for the very valid responses and just know I’m continuing to listen.

them getting mad at amaya after she asked them ALL if they were uncomfortable is so so annoying like what GURL SHE ASKED YOU

This season really highlighted why I rather focus on being a feminist rather than a “girl’s girl” because feminism calls for me to be mindful and accountable of my relationships with women  ( platonically or romantically) and how we can actually show up for each other,  instead of being each other’s yes man and not loving each other enough to trust that we can respectfully find solutions to our disagreements !!

my coworkers were asking me why i don’t watch love island and it’s because i need Ashley Norton to summarize it in funny ways or i won’t pay attention

34:35 GAG IT! he's a 26 year old man who grew up in one of the most diverse states, but ppl are treating him like he's a thirteen year old who grew up on a mountain isolated from POC 😭

amaya is one of love island's strongest soldiers 😭 she deserved that win

I think Huda is an example of someone who desperately desperately needs therapy. I understand where she was coming from at times, but she was absolutely showing some abusive tendencies that were sickening to see. I think if she worked through her shit in therapy, that may help break this cycle.

17:28 NO ONE TALKING ABOUT HOW ALLLLLL THE BOYS SWITCHED UP ON HER ONCE THEY FIGURED OUT SHE WAS AMERICAS SWEETHEART

"Does that mean we wont have trees?" "cheese??" "no, trees" "no babes, that's the weather" I'M CRYING 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I wish you would have touched on Huda coercing Chris for sexual intimacy. That’s the biggest problem I have with her. It was honestly the scariest part of this season seeing someone trying to force someone to have sex, threaten them, and then see the fanbase respond by completely ignoring the situation because it involves a black man as the victim.

34:12 Austin's tattoo comes off as " I can't be racist, I know a black person."

As angry as the fans are this season, I do believe the audience is part of what ruined this season.

I think it was really important to talk about that scene in bed where Huda wakes Chris up for "cuddles", he doesn't respond, or express a negative response, and she responded with " if not cuddling me is worth me being upset tomorrow ". That scene was shocking and cannot be panned over

56:33 "Girl's girl" and "mean girl" are such unserious terms anyways. Firstly, they are grown adult women with compex psychologies. And secondly, why does nobody worry about the men being "boy's boys" or "mean boys" it's ridiculous that's why.

What was insane was the "grace" that huda was given, while chelly and olandria were called mean girls and bullies online and were loosing followers

honestly a little shocked that you didn’t mention huda basically trying to coerce chris 😭 like that was not okay im sorry

Thank you so much for your rant about how the men treated Amaya, people seemed to forget all the bs Ace and Austin put her through on those early episodes and it pmo.

You were so wrong about next season there was NO background checks and there WAS Megan the stallion

idk if it’s just me but i’m pretty sure Huda kept saying “escape goat” 💀

Amaya was the most emotionally mature person on this season, period. She repeatedly tried to communicate with these men and they were playing games. She is direct and open and the boys were not.
