I love DVDs, no matter what people say they will never be obsolete. The price is just right for most people like me who just want to OWN a copy of the films they love. People forget that the point of collecting physical media is to OWN them and watch them at your terms. Keep collecting mate!

I'm not a fan of streaming anymore, I prefer to have my own collection of DVDs!

For me personally, blu ray is priority, but I'll get a dvd if the price is right

For me it’s Blu Ray for Movies and DVD for TV shows.
(Mostly)

I was overcome with streaming subscription fatigue and having to scroll endlessly. Now I cancelled everything and bought a DVD player instead. So much happier. Our local library has everything under the sun.

I still own DVD's and HD DVD disks because they come with the original uncut and alternate versions of the movie, plus a lot of cult classic DVD movies are still unavailable on bluray and streaming services so this is the main reason why I still own DVD's.
Great video.

Physical media  > streaming, any day of the week. Whether it's DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K or even VHS, I will always favor owning movies and TV show season sets over streaming them.

the Last of the Valuable Physical Media...

2025 and I'm still buying and collecting DVDs.

Menus on blu-rays are shockingly boring considering how much bigger the discs are.

I wouldn't get rid of your DVDs yet.  There are still a few DVDs with special features, extended cuts and correct color timing that Blu-ray/4K radically changed; and many of those features and cuts have never been carried over.

As long as Blu Ray players exist then they are NOT obsolete.

I have hundreds of dvds I've collected over the years, I don't collect them anymore but I don't have any intention of getting rid of my collection.

I love DVDs. They have enabled me to build a substantial movie library because of how cheap they are. I typically get them for between $1 and $3 at thrift stores. On my 58" plasma, I'd say 50% look amazing, 45% look decent and more than watchable, and maybe 5% aren't good (not optimized for 16:9 TVs so the picture is small). I still buy new and used blu-rays too. I also find that so many DVDs had great packaging, where most blu-rays are a hunk of plastic and thin paper insert. I'll often pick up the DVD because of the packing and put my blu-ray in it. I do appreciate HD pic quality, but sometimes you just want to watch the movie. I grew up on broadcast TV in the 70's and 80's so even a DVD on a big TV is something I never would have dreamed of 30 years ago.

I was waiting for the pile to fall over, did not disappoint

I've just started collecting again after years of streaming and I can totally get on board with this. I have bought about 500 in a month, charity shops are a GREAT way of keeping the cost down.

They definitely still need to bring back cool main menus on Dvds

I am a huge advocate for having a physical Media collection, even if its a movie you'll only watch once or twice. So many great titles are at thrift stores (we call them that in the us lol) and even Blu Rays. Specifically for tv shows, it is sooo worth it to just buy it instead of subscribing to a service especially the rights always being so finicky. Breaking Bad for instance is getting taken off Netflix in 2025, so I bought it all on blu ray and Better call saul, because they were the 2 shows I only cared about loosing and I unsubscribed. Now I can watch if the Internet goes out and I don't have to worry about any episode getting removed or any ads! Not to mention, if a favorite movie gets taken of streaming, ill always have it. Great video!!! Greetings from America!

It's funny because your video appeared to me today, and I just found a copy of Lethal Weapon at a second-hand shop! I've started rebuying DVDs after getting tired of movies disappearing from streaming services and the lack of quality in their catalogs. When I watch my DVDs or Blu-rays, I can focus more on the content. Plus, there are a lot of extra features available. Many DVDs offer decent quality when using an HDMI cable with an HDR TV like mine. It's a very cheap hobby for us to experience.

I have a renewed love for DVDs as they haven’t been Ai touched or the colours haven’t been altered from their theatrical release. A lot of Blurays and 4K show the film’s special effects and makes them look cheaper than they are. I have a 4K OLED tele and a video scaler which makes DVDs look almost as good as blurays. There is loads of films and tv shows not yet available anywhere else other than DVD. I still get bluray and 4K, but I’m not a format collector, I’m a film lover. Whatever the format it’s on. Not a fan of streaming at all with the ads and unavailability of a lot of films I wanna watch.
