15 Grotesque Obsessions Howard Hughes Developed Until He Couldn't Leave His Room

In 1932, Howard Hughes was the most desirable man in America — a billionaire aviator worth $75 million who flew faster than any human alive. By 1972, he weighed 93 pounds and hadn't left a single room in four years.
This isn't the story of his success. This is the story of the 15 obsessions and compulsions that consumed him from the inside — the rituals nobody dared talk about, the systems he built to control a world that was slipping away, and the darkened room he never escaped.
From an 11-page written protocol just to deliver a bottle of milk, to a private contamination taxonomy with four tiers and amendment clauses, to written regulations governing his aides' bathroom schedules — Howard Hughes didn't just lose his mind. He engineered its destruction with the same precision he once applied to aviation.
Some of these obsessions appear in no documentary. Most have never been covered at this level of detail. Every item on this list is documented.
If you've ever watched The Aviator and wondered what really happened behind closed doors — this is that video.
