I’ll be honest, Chris Rock does not have the vocal range to do anything other than comedy. He just sounds like a cartoon character 99% of the time which really just keeps him as Chris Rock in any situation.
You get someone like Robin Williams who could deepen his voice or raise it, but had such immense control at all times which really aided his transition to drama. Even Bill Burr when he is quiet can pull some gravitas out.
Imagine establishing an eight movie pattern where the least interesting thing going on is the time wasting detectives who all pointlessly die at the end of the movie without accomplishing anything of consequence. Now imagine that in the ninth movie you make the detective the only plot line and expect people to get invested.
Attended a prerelease screening of this movie with special guests Darren Lynn Bousman and one of the writers. Once the movie wrapped up and credits began we were so stunned by the blinding genius before us, we forgot to clap until we slowly remembered that the director was in the theater with us.
"John Kramer Was Right." He says as he does the exact opposite of what John Kramer's subtle-as-a-brick philosophy is all about because we need to pretend this has anything to do with Saw.
Gritty Saw reboot that changes the meaning of "reverse bear trap" to a trap that frees bears instead of trapping them. The bears then proceed to maul Jigsaw's victims.
I still find it insane that they saw the concept of "Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson as the main characters in a Saw film" and thought, "YES! This will be the film that will bring new life into the series."
42:00 I cannot believe someone actually wrote the line "The only way to stop yourself from suffocating is to sever your spinal cord," WHAT? I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt too and thought it was at a lower part in the back, but then they specified the neck! In order to stop not breathing, you must end game, it doesn't take a doctor to know severing that would end everything for someone. If you have ever fallen on your back, that alone knocks the wind out of you, imagine what happens if it's on the neck.
I don't care if you get the best/well known actors in the world. If they told you to not put in tobin bell/jigsaw because they felt they could do something better, I would question that actor as to how you would not want to use the face of the franchise.
