🎞️ ABOUT VIDEO VILLAGE
Greg and Des are friends who met on a TV set (one a writer, the other in production) and have been watching movies together ever since. Greg’s seen a lot. Des missed more than she thought. And there’s still plenty we’re excited to experience for the first time together.

We keep it real—reacting like we always have: talking through movies with curiosity, industry insight, and a shared love for storytelling and the people behind it. Expect thoughtful takes, real-time analysis, bad jokes, loud laughs (especially at moments you might not expect from Greg), eye rolls, and the occasional eerily accurate plot prediction (nope, Des still hasn’t seen it—she’s just good at spotting story beats).

The ending monologue is one of my favorite moments in cinema history.

In the novel, Llewellyn's death is also "off-screen," so to speak, with the sheriff stumbling upon the aftermath. Props to the Coen brothers for staying true to the source material; I'm not sure many filmmakers would have the guts to eschew that type of dramatic showdown.

Javier Bardem (Anton Chigurh) performs here one of the most terrifying villains ever. He won the Oscar for best supporting actor.

A 1958 quarter was still silver, which is why it pings so loud. It's not a quarter like the others. Another symbol of decay.

Tracking devices were not widely available in 1980 so it’s not surprising that Llewelyn didn’t think to look for one initially.

My favorite line was Tommy Lee saying about his father, "I'm 20 years older now than he ever was". Wow.

I worked in the Michigan prison system for 25 years and knew dozens of Psycho and Sociopaths. The Anton Chigurh character absolutely nails the feel. They're completely empty inside but want to be able to pass for normal so they're always watching your responses so they can emulate you later to manipulate people.
Everything's always a game, a test to see how you react. They'll say weird things, like when he asked the store clerk if he lived out back, just to watch you squirm, just to give you a little push out of your usual learned small talk.
In the absence of any real sense of morality or conscience some will develop little routines or rules like the coin toss. Had the clerk guessed "tails" Anton would absolutely have killed him and thought it was 100% the mans fault for guessing wrong.
There are way more of these broken people out there than folks realize and I do not miss them.

TLJ’s end monologue always brings tears to my eyes.

No Country for Old Men has the greatest score of all time. Not one bad note.

Bardem won the Academy Award for this role. Rightfully so.

6:00 "I was about to say "He looks so young." but then I remember this movie is 20 years old." And then we all remember we're 50.

The Coen brothers' masterpiece was nominated for eight Oscars in 2008, winning four: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem), and Best Adapted Screenplay.
It was also nominated in the categories of Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Sound Editing.

In 2016, No Country for Old Men ranked tenth in a BBC poll of the 100 most significant films of the 21st century.

The cast is outstanding across the board, but Javier Bardem as the psychopathic hitman Anton Chigurh is in a league of his own and truly deserved his Oscar.

22:45 OHH OHH SHERIFF! WE JUST MISSED HIM!😂

My favorite Coen Brothers movie. Anton Chigurh is such a fascinating character. Apparently Bardem was like "please, don't make me wear this for three months" regarding the haircut, but later admitted he grew to embrace it - even called it "genius". Thanks for the reaction!

What I love about how smart all the characters are is the message it conveys about the randomness of the world: no amount of clever moves will make you immune to the danger of the world, someone else out there is just as capable as you. A second of bad luck is all it takes to turn a clever protagonist into a nameless background corpse in the story of the next person to come along.

You did not disappoint. Good reaction.

I can’t say it’s an original thought but that exchange in the gas station could be its own short film.

During my first run of this film, Javier Bardem’s character really terrified the hell out of me. But he literally killed it with his role.

I always took the smile he gave the lady at the trailer park as a bit of respect; for a guy with rules, he seemed to respect that she refused to break her own rules.
