I remember feeling terrified by just being in the zombies menu of black ops 1

6-year old me could not play nacht at night

If I had a nickel every time a series started off with a Retrofuturistic Horror Setting and then nose-dived into a comedic parody of itself, I'd be collecting nickels until the end of time.

i remember when zombies was about... zombies.

One of the scariest parts of COD Zombies to me was how "forbidden" it felt. I already knew zombies were in the game, but the complete lack of advertising of them on the game's cover made it feel like something you weren't meant to see, like a glitch or some debug level accidentally left after credits.

By the way, the reason Mob and Origins felt so different compared to the other maps in BO2 was because they were developed by the campaign team with Jason Blundell instead of the usual team ran by Jimmy Zielinski.

genuinely flabbergasted at some of the latest zombie footage you played lmao. the last zombies stuff i  interacted with bo3, which 90% of that was still pretty good all things considered

They lost me with colorful multiverse cthulhu bs in bo3, i miss when it was implicated to just be a german experiment gone wrong with supernatural elements and a vengeful Samantha.

A silly memory I have of Black Ops was me playing Kino Der Toten in my grandma's living room on my 360. As I was playing, she was sitting nearby on her smartphone, but occasionally watching. She kept complimenting the architecture of the building, seemingly not minding the certain giant banners.

I remember when zombies was actually about zombies.

I remember when zombies was about ww2 and cold war conspiracy theories.

I remember when zombies was grounded just enough in history to make the tone and atmosphere a trully horrific nightmare.

I always saw world at war's zombies mode directly taking after the end of the main campagne.

The second world war was over. And yet,  another, more nightmarish than anything humanity has ever faced before was just about to begin.

I used to only play cod zombies with friends, because I was to scared to play solo

The biggest gripe I have with the newer games besides all the bright neon colors is probably the multiverse I just can’t stand multiverses they ruin almost every story I see it in

0:31 the OG songs & sound effects still trigger me like a sleeper agent. Somewhere inside some deep nostalgia turns on.

I was a young kid when I was first introduced to COD zombies via my older brothers. The horror of someone who just merely escaped death being forced to watch as what first appears to be help come running in only to be met with a creature that is going to consume you flesh and bone stuck with me for years. Despite the goofy lines and silly moments you could experience in the games, I never wanted to watch my brothers play them just because of the fear that opening scene created. I did grow out of that fear as I got older, but there are moments when I play the games myself that I feel my childhood terrors chasing back into my mind

Dude this was really well made. Great writing. The humor, your description of the maps, your input. This was a fantastic video! It's clear a lot of effort went into it.

" ah shit the assholes are spawning"

My grandad had a sign that said unattended children will be sold to the circus. He had a bunch of old gag stuff like that i would imagine it was a common joke back in the day. Like putting a fake hand grenade on the desk with a sign that says "complaint department, take a pin and wait"

What kills me is the bo3 remakes of the classic maps remove a lot of the visual horror and sense of hopelessness that the waw and bo1 maps gave

You know what hearing the random like ghost shit in verruckt reminded me of what WAW map was it you could hear the Russians chanting and like a German speech over radio

4:43 This is the ambiance of dread and i loved it.

As a kid i used to have nightmares about the BO1 zombies main menu. I was stuck in the chair and zombies just poor in from the door.
