Good for John he's done his time, and great on you guys for keeping it flexible for him.

Get the sky lights sorted so you can have some natural light shining down into the new office space.

All the best to John in his retirement.

Good ideas on the shop.  The separation of the disassembly and other areas is exactly what we had in our aircraft overhaul facility.  It also made a better show for visitors.

Looking forward to seeing the changes around the unit. You won't know what to do with yourselves when it's all cleaned up and you have the office upstairs. Good idea putting an area out the back in the workshop for stripping incoming engines ready to go through the reworking process. And as for John retiering, I reckon he'll still pop in occasionally to see how things are going

It’s good to hear John’s decided on ‘my time’, you know, retirement is not as good as people think! I retired at 66 from working at 15, only retired because of COVID and lack of work, now doing what I want (unless wife dictates!), sad but all the things I had planned, I’m too knackered to do them! I’m trying though to keep doing, so I can understand where’s he’s coming from, good luck to John, he’s earned it. I would keep the cobweb around the skylight, just adds a feature! Lol. Stay well you three.

Good luck to  John in his retirement. He deserves to be able to kick back and enjoy building that old Austin, even if he never does drive it!
Office space upstairs looks interesting, but I wouldn't leave the roof/wall in the metal. Going to dump heat in winter, and roast in summer. I would insulate it and skin it with some ply. Maybe put in a velux type window for some natural light. Will make the place a lot easier to regulate the temperatures in with some insulation.

The changes you are planning will certainly make it a better environment , that's important and often overlooked . Don't worry we don't think you are like the following !!!
After countless visits to the doctors with many different ailments the doctor eventually said "you are a hypochondriac " , the patient says "oh no , not that as well ".

Good luck to John. Wish him all the very best. 🍺

Good luck to John. I've just had a cataract op and wasn't allowed to lift anything or lean forward and look down for 4 weeks so can't see him coming back to work so soon. I'm the same age as John.

Wishing John all the best. Hope he has some cool projects to keep him going in retirement.

Moving clean paperwork away from the greasy stuff is a very good idea. I suggest you have a place to wash your hands either at the top or bottom of the stairs. So your hands are clean before touching your computers.

Hi guys, another great episode in the Barum Engines journey.  I’ve been expecting John to “step back” ever since you acquired your second workshop, and I’m really pleased that he’s doing it and that he’ll still be available if needed.  What about using him to train your next apprentice on the machining side of the business?
I’ve thought that your clean area was a great idea, visible to the public and looking clinically clean. However, the appearance has been adversely affected (in my opinion) with all the BMW parts cluttering the top of all the units!
You said in the video that you’ll have the machine shop area painted white and (based upon personal experience) I think that would be a mistake. 40 years ago we transformed a garage workshop into a “dealer of the year” area where we had the lower 4 foot of the workshop painted in a mid-grey colour and the remainder painted in a light grey colour which helped keep things light and airy. This area was done in a “high traffic” type paint which was very easy to keep clean and would also help you differentiate between a production area and your “clean room” area.  If you wanted to personalise things a bit, you could split the two greys with a “Barum Engines” orange stripe.
Just my opinions and something to consider.  Keep up the great work.
Regards
Paul.

Where is the kitchen ie kettle, microwave and toaster? Well done John 👍

All the best  john for retirement,  and w whats at room at the back of the workshop for

The absolutly last place for an office in Texas.  You've been experiencing some high Summer temperatures, plans for a mini split AC?  Any windows?  "Flashy Light", Mirror Ball?  A machine shop, or a Disco?  John is bailing due to the 'Club Life"  coming.

One problem the stairs will not comply the top platform has to be at the same level as the floor. The problem is someone walking out of the top office door forgets the step and falls, check the regulations. And the stairs need a emergency light.

A pool table would look good up there.

so you need a new headman now 🤣🤣. and i would give some thought to insulation and ventilation for the new office space, that could get awfully warm up there with sun on the roof and those metal walls if there is no insulation

Good for him! Need an appreciate???
