Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has used the UN General Assembly to hit back at some of his most vocal critics. In a defiant speech, Netanyahu took aim at New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has accused him of war crimes and previously pledged to have him arrested. He also attacked Qatar and Türkiye, accusing them of spreading falsehoods about Israel. But his remarks fell on a mostly empty audience.

Dozens of delegates walked out as Netanyahu took the podium, amid mounting international criticism of Israel over the war in Gaza and Iran. Yet amid that growing diplomatic pressure, Netanyahu still found time for one important regional partner. On the sidelines of the UNGA, he met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the two discussing defence, energy and regional security. The meeting comes less than a month after Greece signed a 3.5-billion-dollar deal for Israeli air defence systems. So as Israel faces growing isolation elsewhere, could its deepening partnership with Greece reshape the balance of power in the Eastern Mediterranean?
