Just a quick note to clear up confusion. The Gruber family was not rich enough to have a live in maid. The “maid” was a “milkmaid”, German Magd. In rural areas, unmarried women became a Magd after school and left home to work for another farm until she married. Some women remained a Magd their entire lives if they didn’t marry a farmer but a field hand, German Knecht. It was common for families to offer their teenaged children to each other as a Magd or Knecht. They were paid very little but often became part of the family. Very young Mägde and Knechte (14-16yo) switched up the farms they worked for around Easter time, so each year, new teenagers arrived in each village. During the 20s, once a week usually, they also visited the village school and received education on farming, gardening, house keeping or child-care. This practice was custom up until the mid fifties in most parts of Germany.

You’ve given way more details about the family and their drama and conflicts than most people do, and I’ve listened to this story presented a lot over the years! I think because this is now 100 years old, people don’t spend as much time trying to learn those seemingly mundane bits of the story. But it really makes for a more compelling and heartbreaking (and eerie) tale when you do, so thank you!

I think it was Lorenz
1. Lives nearby.
2. Problems with the family.
3. Knew too much.
4. Too calm upon discovering the dead bodies of his neighbors.
5. I also found it odd how he took control of the situation so quickly and volunteered to stay behind while everyone else left. Plus moving bodies is also very odd.

Word of advice: don't apologize for technical difficulties. Don't apologize so much. Your videos are great. Today's viewers grew up on "The Blair Witch Project" which was a hot mess, and youtube viewers are not that picky. ~Aunty Jeanne

Do I know all of these stories very well? Yes. Am I going to listen to you cover them again because you do it better? Absolutely. Your research is flawless and your delivery is so empathetic. It makes the victims feel like people I know instead of just statistics. You're gonna be so huge in this genre, girlfriend!

I can't believe you just started your channel 3 months ago! Had you been putting out videos on another channel prior to starting this one? You just seem so at ease while presenting. I'm a high school teacher, and one of my certifications is in speech/drama/debate, so I know how rare it is to see someone with such poise. Whether this is your first channel or not, you do an excellent job narrating these stories. I can't wait to see your subscriber number soar! Best wishes!

The details is what separates this channel from all the others.  We appreciate all the extra work you put into these stories.

This is the first time I have ever heard of a killer hanging around the crime scene for days, milking cows, etc!  Usually they flee the scene ASAP.  Bizarre!  Wonder what today's profilers would make of that?  I don't see those 2 brothers doing that, and no valuables were taken so what was their motive?  My bet is that there was a single killer (two or more really increases the likelihood of someone eventually talking) who, yes, lured the 3 adults into the barn - the girl probably was with one of the adults.  The maid and baby were attacked in the house I think. My money is on Lorenz - see comment by jamiejam below and maybe the milking of the cows was just a farmer's habit/ instinct.  Did he think he could inherit/buy the farm? I can't remember all the details of these very complicated relationships. Thanks for this fascinating story!  I appreciate hearing about historic crimes outside of the US, since I know about so many of them already, but little about crimes in Germany or the rest of Europe (except the UK).

Lorenz is suspicious af. Who moves anything from an obvious crime scene? And Andreas was disgusting. He needed way more than a year of jail. Crazy that Victoria’s mother didn’t do anything to protect her after finding out what he was doing. Awful

Absolutely merciless parents with the name drop.

I knew of this but nothing other than they were found dead. Because of all your research a much clearer picture has emerged.  Who ever did this knew everything about the farm, this was personal. It seems like the killer had no where to go afterwards or they thought of the farm as theirs. And as crazy as it sounds , they might have thought all of this abuse had to end, and that everyone was beyond redemption. Such a sad ending to their lives. Thank You

How would Lorenz know that the keys he supposedly found just dangling from the lock on the door were the same keys that had gone missing? As the former maid said, she’d never seen him go in the house or the barn while she was working there, so it’s not like he was around often enough to be able to tell the sets of keys apart. Unless they were labelled somehow, which I think would have been pretty unlikely. This case is so bananas! I also wonder about the gash on the dog’s head (poor pup), like maybe the dog tried to attack the killer and the killer fought off the dog? But you’d think that then the murderer would have killed the dog, or at the very least not moved it around the farm. Maybe there could have been more than one killer. I wish we had answers so this family could get some justice! RIP to them, especially the young children 💔

Oh, my, gosh. Chills just overcame my entire body. I've watched so many videos on this case, but you gave SO many details I had never heard of. What gave me chills though was learning that Albert found the barn door open when it previously had not been open when he arrived. I've always heard that each member of the family and the maid were lured into the barn, one by one.. what if Albert was the next victim and the suspect was in there waiting, but because he fled, the suspect did too so they wouldn't be caught?

I must have listened to this story a few other times from various people on YouTube and not to discredit those I’ve heard who told this same story but your story of this family is the best I’ve heard with more detailed insight into the family’s life leading up to the murders which gave me more understanding! The father was a monster! It is a awful shame what happened to the family

How does a bystander just go inside the kitchen and make a damn snack?! What a damn sicko.

I’m going to say this as someone who works with the dead (hospice, so like Lorens, I know the deceased very well by the time I’m doing anything to care for their body) it’s absolutely insane that Lorens immediately started moving bodies. Even being someone who is somewhat desensitized to death, I would never in a million years think to sit up a dead person, especially not one who wasn’t expected to pass (yknow, because this was a murder). It’s also a lot harder to move a body than people realize, which makes him moving an adult man even weirder. He had to have put significant effort into rearranging those bodies. There’s very little doubt in my mind that he did it

I can't believe someone made themselves a SNACK at a CRIME SCENE. like WHAT?

I hope you get to 1mil one day. Love your channel.

I thought I knew this story well until you told it. You definitely know a thing or two about investigative journalism- great job!!

Am I the one that thinks her husband who was at war did this cause he technically been “missing” in action n she said she saw a soldier
