This is so funny because this shows that kpop hasn’t changed one bit, you’d think that kpop stans would behave differently 10 years ago but absolutely not lmaoo. These controversies could genuinely happen to any 4th gen gg

I had absolutely NO IDEA that there was so much controversy surrounding this comeback. I mean props to them though because Genie is iconic and will be forever cemented in kpop history.

Genie was a extremely important comeback for SNSD. If Genie didn't do well all the haters, which were too many, and the media would have buried them in one hit wonder cemetery. All the antis and haters that were salty about Gee (the first viral k-pop video and first k-pop mega hit) dominating all charts for months, wanted really bad for SNSD to fail and tried everything. When SNSD came up with hit after hit with Oh, Run devil run, Hoot, Mr Taxi, the boys, etc all the haters got really quiet and humble. sNSD ended up being as the media called them "the unsurpassable wall" for girl groups of the era and many companies tried replicating their success for years without success until JYP saw their decline in popularity and launched Twice seeing the big hole in the industry left by SNSD. If it wasn't for them people would not have as much expectations for girl groups, specially big groups with more than 5 members.

As a Sone that week was stressful! Every fan group was out to get SNSD, and wanted to see them fail. SNSD even had haters that made a dedicated youtube channel in English that would only post rumors, out of context clips, and videos about how they're untalented/old, and would flop in Japan. It was called Anti9Angels, and this was back in 2009/2010 when kpop wasn't even popular in the west, and the hate was everywhere! So I cant even imagine the hate train they experienced in Korea. Thankfully they Persevered and became the leaders of their generation. 9 Queens, stay salty!

I didn't know it was THAT messy omg 💀💀

The Genie era was messy but SNSD persevered and are still known as one of the most iconic kpop acts. SNSD will always be that girl!

It was like dominos of problems these girls couldnt get a break 💀

OMG! I couldn’t imagine being a sone back in 09-10 it must of been so hard 😭, especially since they were being dragged ☠️! I’m so glad that they overcame that and now we have even MORE iconic hits 🩷

I would love to see more SNSD era histories lol, it's so easy for this stuff to be forgotten especially since I was so young at the time! I would never have thought genie went through all this since I got into SNSD around 2016

damn snsd really had everyone out to get them huh 😭

So interesting considering genie and the costumes are considered so iconic nowadays.

I don't think even an expert lip-reader fully fluent in Korean could actually tell anything for certain from blurry old fancams.

And against all that they went on to their comback stage at music core on the iconic helicopter roof and break korean TV history, and that moment  solidified them as the top kpop girl group.

The thing I don't understand is how song writers are expected to not accidentally plagiarise music they've never heard? If I write a song and accidentally give it the same melody as some random french indie artist, does that mean i'm plagiarising it if i've never even heard of the song, let alone the artist or even genre? this is like the fifty fifty controversy over cupid - how are you supposed to know?

That pronunciation of HyoYeon was criminal lol

OMG, the most stressful week for Sones worldwide, attacks from all sides. You’d think that after Gee, the haters would pipe-down but NOOO, they were relentless. SNSD overcame all of it though! So proud of them 🩷

I love hearing about early 2nd gen idol stories! There’s so much I missed because of lack of translations or how young I was at the time. Thanks for the blast from the past.

I have never heard of any of these controversies before , I thought this song was just very famous and smooth sailing , was I wrong

Yes, but those controversies made them to even strived more. Then, SNSD became a household name in SK. And they became iconic and a textbook for girl groups. That's why they will always be legendary. They went through a lot of struggles and controversies before they came to where they are now. Queens 👑

I remember being an ELF during that time, shit was wild. 10 year old me didn’t know any better and just attacked every Sone I came across on Facebook cuz I knew I had 3 fandoms backing me up 😭😭😭😭 now I’m like wtf were you doing
