It just feels like they go really hard for thematics over actual design

I think a big part of the issue is the sheer gap in killer strength. Take Jason and Trapper for example. Jason has so much more freedom because he’s just so much stronger. He can hit from range and over pallets, traverse the map quickly and stealthily and much more. Trapper can set traps. Evan will need a perk to slow gen progress so he even has time to set up his power, then something to use to help regress gens, likely a perk to help with the insane number of pallets and a chase perk so he can actually get downs when his power is rendered useless by the map or survivors simply disarming them.

Strengthening a lot of these weaker killers would open the door for more perk freedom and for more perks to be considered strong. At least, that’s my take on it. I’ll always maintain that s-tiers (nurse and blight) need to be brought down to a or b-tier while every killer in low b-tier or below needs to be severely buffed and/or reworked. I think every killer should be as strong as the likes of Huntress and that many should be much stronger.

Perks like rapid brutality, save the best, blood favour and coup which are one of the few non info/gen perks that are relevant

I find the issue with killer perk design, as someone who makes concepts for characters and perks, is how many more things survivors can do, and how restricted killer is.

Killer can hook, interact with gens, vault, break, open lockers, have a terror radius, injure and be stunned.

Survivors can drop pallets, vault, run or walk, repair, do skill checks, unhook, heal, open gates, crouch, stun, go in lockers, interact with teammates, do invocations and, apparently, play instruments.

There’s more survivors can do and, apparently, break.

They did Jasons so, so, dirty.

The problem is they are more wiling to make unique and intersting perk types for survivors meanwhile killers if they are lucky get minor number buffs on perks, but in most cases they just get maybe like... 3 seconds of haste at 5%

Your voice I find really calming and relaxing. Kinda like Ashymovs has a second channel where he just talks for hours about random dbd stuff for people to fall asleep too.

I think the biggest problem by killer perks are the activation (deactivation by hex perks) criteria. I mean i perk that can be deactivated in 12 seconds or a perk were you need to break 13 pallets and then also needs to be stunned isn't worth running. While surv perks are often activated by just Looping/hiding or doing there main goal

Also, i think a good way to fix perks is give killers 2 extra perk slots, spefically for a slowdown perk and a info perk. Then they can run whatever else

the problem with killer perks is that killers are not equal and can’t ever be equal. Any perk that specializes in something just runs into risk of abuse from specialized killers. Gen defense/regress is the only general perk design that is considerably less polarizing on killers because all killers damage gens the same way

what I think should be done is to separate killers into classes that will have some perks improved and some nerfed for their specific class. That way S-tiers would stay S-tiers without screwing the balance by their existence, since their perks will be inherently weaker , while weaker killers would finally be able to get perks that impact the game in a reasonably healthy amount. The Krasue ptb did something similar with hooks giving weaker bonuses for blight and nurse and I think they really need to look into killer specialization to sort out how the perks would be balanced

I did a little test recently. Im a Skull Merchant main, I played her the most and shes my first and so far only P100. 2 months ago, I swapped to Ghoul, and used a strong build. It was interesting, I learned a few nice tricks and all that. 2 days ago, I went back to Skully, and did so without perks. Only 2 addons and a mori offering. The games did feel a lot harder, unbelievably harder. But I got a 4k every single time, besides once. That one time I let a Sable unhook herself and let her out bc her team left the poor thing to get 2nd hook stage for no reason. Anyways, tho I do understand that perks can decide games in most situations, there are still more factors to it

they should just give killer a 5th slot, a lot of builds need 2-3 perks to get real value out of them, it would allow to actually run different strategies other than gen defense.

For the recod  for perk teirs. BHVR has said they WANT to get rid of them, but its like super hard coded into the game and its not that simple to remove them

They need to consider the power of the action the killer perks. In other words if it blocks or regresses gens it’s highly powerful and therefore needs to be relatively “weak” in its effect. If it does something niche and situational the effect must be really “powerful” such as last a long time. They don’t really seem to do that. They don’t weigh the actions

I got to say love the video however when we take into account what happens when you have killer purse that just don't work with certain Killers right like if you recall original Freddy tinkerer straight up didn't work with him I believe he was one of 2 killers where that happened. If you make them unique they can straight up not work with certain killers since survivors are essentially skins it doesn't matter as much so I think killers should either have busted perks that synergize well with THEM and killers like them (lesser not meta)  like I'd consider Jason a mobility killer so his perks should mobility, judgement is a psuedo gen defense so gen defense killers should benefit from hers and so on you get the point

I think the difference between survivor and killer perks is that since survivors don’t have an actual power, their perks have to be more interesting, and since every survivor can share animations they can do more interesting things in terms of adding new animations. Turn back the clock and Hex Pentimento are the only 2 killer perks in the entire game that require actual button presses to do something unique, all other killer perks are entirely technically passive, but survivors get to press buttons all the flipping time! Dead hard, blast mine, wire tap, Nicholas Cages bs, bardic inspiration, ALL BOONS AND INVOCATIONS, I think honestly I just want more unique interactions for killer perks, like a perk that lets you press a different button over a downed survivor to have them “caged” the way it works in 2v8 or maybe a perk that let’s you cancel pallet breaks, maybe a perk that makes you find glyphs scattered around the map in order to activate, literally anything that isn’t just another way to see auras or stat buffs😭

Survivors perks often activate during situations you WILL get into, or are activated by choice

killer perks often activate upon acomplishing something you need to do to win.

A bad example would be; imagine call of duty, where one person gets power ups by killing enemies, and another gets power ups by getting shot at.

It's also a numbers game, as far as how many good and bad perks there are. There are 44 Killers and 54 Survivors, currently. That means Survivors have 30 more perks than the Killers do. Even if 2/3 of perks are bad, that is still a large number

Honestly, I think part of the issue too is with the lack of side objectives for the killer. The killer can hit and hook survivors, kick gens and pallets, and that’s about it. If a perk isn’t helping you do one of those two things effectively, then it doesn’t feel good to play with.
