The Biggest Problem in Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight has approximately one million issues, each of which could have its own essay video. But this video is dedicated to what I think is perhaps the most heart-breaking of them all; the fact that the game itself often tricks us into blindly hating each other even when we're on the same team.

I just wanted to share with you all that finishing this video has felt like a huge accomplishment. For some reason, I felt very stuck mentally and I've also caught a seasonal flu or something that has made me ill. I kept postponing and postoning this video but I finally managed to finish it in the last couple days. This is your sign to finish (or start) that project that you've been postponing! You've got this!! 💪

Bonus points to anyone that can pinpoint the exact moment of the video where my voice changes.

He didn’t do the intro! It’s not Otz, it’s an incredibly convincing hologram!

The sad part is that survivors who sabotage other teammates usually have a sense of entitlement or think they're in the right

It's so wild that there's no personal gain in having other teammates escape, your score is only your own personal score. Having a points multiplier, bonus, or rank boost based on how many people escape regardless of your own personal progress seems like a no brainer for what should be a team game

1:25 genuinely a terrible issue, ESPECIALLY when it’s ENCOURAGED by other content creators. Some creators base their entire content off of us vs them and I can’t stand it

there should be a CHECKBOX in the tutorial that says "I acknowledge, when running I leave scratch marks" and "there are killer perks that reveal me"

"A little while" shows the amount of hours spent for someone to go to medical school and complete residency

Hello otz, this is the friends you made along the way

DBD is famous for its unwritten rules because the game's design goes against what is fun and enjoyable in so many weird, unnecessary ways.

A "Give In" option that rewards you if your teammate escapes when it is a 2v1 and you are downed would probably go a long way. Sort of a noble sacrifice bonus.

To be fair that example game with slate was kinda wholesome and makes survivors hate killers less for helping them find justice

I remember Bricky making a video on this back in 2021.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Shout out to Slate he has such a fun personality.

They got to add a survivor communication line that says “look at my perks” so people know that your playstyle may be weird or a bit off for a reason

Oh dude I love Slate's videos! He's always super quick to spin unfortunate things into humor and I appreciate him immensely for that.

5:40 it wasn’t just a quiet belief they had either, the entire MMR overhaul they did a few years ago, and the following patches actively ENCOURAGED selfish play styles

5:16 wait but that grab animation is cool as hell. Dwight tries to hold onto the window but trapper yanks him off the window. I understand why that animation couldn't be in modern DBD but damn, that looks really cool.

I think it’s made worse by the discrepancy in killers and survivor perks. If you main a mid or low tier killer, you feel the brunt of the things that make playing against survivor frustrating. If you play survivor into top tier killers you get the brunt of the worst parts about playing against killer. Then you get this “gap” in understanding that’s hard to close because the experience varies so much.

Thank you so much Otz for reminding people to be better people in this game and try to see the game as a whole picture rather than 1 perspective. I love it so much ❤

Uninstalling this game and remove it from my steam library is probably the best decision I've ever made. This game makes MOBAs and FPS games look like a wholesome community
