"He hit a homerun, and didn't even realize it" is one of the best metaphors for this movie and what Beane accomplished with his strategy.

It’s that Annual Time of the Year for me where I binge watch clips of Moneyball.

For those that don't know, Billy was offered $12.5 million per year.

“First one through the wall always gets bloody.”

I’m going to use that line.

My father-in-law grew up as an Oakland A's fan and coached an "A's" little league team for several years.  He was a dedicated baseball fan and helped the community by cleaning and dragging the fields every weekend morning.  After one bad experience at a movie theater in the 50's, he never again went to the movies and seldom ever watched them at home.  Fast forward to a couple of years ago, a much older and retired man now and an Anaheim Angels fan (he was a carpenter who worked on the Angel Stadium renovation and fell in love with the park), he watched this movie with us in our living room.  He was in tears.  He loved the movie so much and it brought him back to his younger years.

“I know you’ve taken it in the teeth out there, but the first guy through the wall — he always gets bloody. Always. It’s the threat of not just the way of doing business, but in their minds, it’s threatening the game. But really what it’s threatening is their livelihoods. It’s threatening their jobs. It’s threatening the way that they do things. And every time that happens, whether it’s the government or a way of doing business or whatever it is, the people who are holding the reins — have their hands on the switch — they go batshit crazy. Anyone who is not tearing their team right now and rebuilding it, using your model, they’re dinosaurs”.

I’ve probably watched this three times over just from YouTube clips

I like how this movie was filmed.  It has kind of the same technique or feel as Margin Call - the dialog is very even-keeled and it feels like you're almost in the same room with these people for many of the scenes.

I never realised the Red Sox offered Brat Pitt a contract 😂😂😂

Henry's asking Beane his ideas for a birthday gift demonstrates his willingness to admit he doesn't know everything and to solicit outside advice.  It tees up his open-minded embrace of the Moneyball doctrine.

Red Sox went on to win more World Series by using Billy’s system.   2004, 2007, 2013, 2018

I always loved this scene. He changed the business side of the game

The line about what the money says is interesting. The irony of saying that every player who makes big money is worth it was completely disproven by their approach.

Detail that some people miss: The offer would make him the highest paid GM in the history of sports. Not baseball. Sports.

throws the ball, waits two full seconds "Heads up" LMAO love that part

Congrats to Brad Pitt. If this acting thing doesn’t workout he can always go be the Red Sox gm

Anyone think the director told Jonah Hill to throw the ball without Brad knowing to get the genuine reaction lol

Thank you Denise.

John Henry is so much nerdier on real life
