Flushed Away! At one time a controversial Aardman pick, with it being their first dip into CG animation - what a scandal! And though I wasn't the most enthused when watching this as a kid, looping back to it now and this thing is just classic Aardman gold. With a million jokes, references and ideas, this is one of those endlessly creative executions, and a few too many quotable lines. It may have been the end for the DreamWorks deal, but it's certainly not a dealbreaker for us. This is Aardman's AMAZING Flushed Away Movie...

My mom banned my brother from watching this movie for a few years, because he kept flushing things down the toilet

What's interesting is that Roddy being lonely is accurate to real life, rats are incredibly social creatures and any vet or pet shelter will tell you if you're adopting a rat always get 2-3 because they will get depressed without company

17:24 I love the attention to details here. Rodey's left sleeve is ripped, which, during the age of piracy in the 17-18th century or maybe even older, that's how privateers and Royal Navy crew were marked as traitors, by getting their uniform ripped by their captain or commanding officer during mutiny

I'm shocked that you didn't say anything about the fact Spike was played by Andy Serkis

9:38 I mean, I am US and I never had an issue with these characters when I was a kid and now. Flushed away. It was easily one of my favorite films to watch as a kid and it’s still a great time to watch now.

27:52 this made me the same kind of sad as watching the T-800 willingly accept being dunked into molten metal.

12:00 kept thinking "was Bill Nye actually in this movie??" And then looked it up only to realize there's an actor named Bill Nighy 😂

Update: also realized that Bill Nighy was Davey Jones. Man I'm out of the loop

A little fun fact about the deleted hamster butlers: While they were not in the movie. They ARE in the video game adaptations of the film. Honestly kinda makes me wonder where in production of the film that the games were brought up. As the games, while sharing same beats and scenarios as the movie, have some completely different areas and characters not seen before. such as needing to deal with a Spider Queen boss. (Only really played the GBA version. have yet to really go through the GameCube one.)

It’s a shame that Flushed Away came out around the same time as so many Disney classics, keeping it from standing out as much as it could. It’s definitely one of the most underrated animated movies of its time. If it had come out in the modern era, I think it would’ve been held in much higher regard.
